For Renault 12 fans

Thank you Dave ,
I do like the the updated front bodywork, not that I didn't like original R12. The silver extra cab with ali canopy I like very much.

The revised nose is like I was going to do to a R16TS in ZA, as my off-road service car.........

Those Dacia sports really get me. It's like their version of our Mitsubishi Scorpion, in that we have the common Sigma here to compare them against :p

That is a smooth modern looking front end really isn't it. Certainly late 80's as apposed to early 70's. Kinda reminds me of Pulsar's and Nissan EXA's of the year.

Here's a photo of my dacia papuc 1304 4x4

The red 1 tonner has the ugly nose that mine came with and the yellow ute is mine when it was a delivery ute with R12 front.

Having returned from a trip around eastern Europe I'm happy to advise many, many Dacia/R12 clones still exist around Bucharest. Only saw one hot looking one, but they're hard to pick as many have different headlight treatments. One thing that did catch my eye was a four door R12/Dacia ute!

A yellow one of these!

Air Conditioning.. Well hello your Majesty

Yep. That panel Van is tops!

Thanks for reminding about flares too.

Yeah the old factories supplied some good kit. Here's an extract from the Mini Cooper S Special Tuning department's booklet; about 15 pages for factory race and rally stuff, all with part numbers. You should see what's available! Even all sorts big valve ported heads, body kits, negative camber kits, LSD's... Sorry it's not Ren stuff, but any car nut would love to see this from the factory so I thought it was interesting anyway. I hope you can read it.

A friend of mine in the RCCD who at one stage owned a 1300 Gordini had written to the Ford factory for details of a works rally Mexico Escort with the thought of perhaps buying one. They sent him a complete list of options which had more pages than War & Peace. I remember seeing 5 fuel tanks and 7 gearbox options amongst other things, like the Cooper list it was endless and something to drool over.......

Fantastic car, the Mexico! Dream garage that; 12 Gordini, Mexico and Cooper S.

Meh.

I looked at many cars and have had some, but in my experience I would like something with decent steering (rack/pinion), suspension (independent at the very least) and brakes (front discs at the very least), maybe RWD (if it helps handling) but not necessarily.

And it absolutely has to be pretty.

Too bad that a few really good cars fall out of that list, like the BMW2002 and variants (steering box?! really, BMW?), the Datsun 501 (same), Alfa 105 (live rear axle, steering box) and really remarkably, the Fulvia. What a waste.

The closest modern (sort of) car that satisfies all of that is a 205GTI hence that's what I drive.

Now, a Simca 1200S on the other hand ...

Surely you forgot the XA Falcon ESP.

Translation of the Ford Corcel Photo. Had 12 engine from memory.

False twin

The Renault 12 has a distant relation. This model, which has been produced all over the world since 1969, has indeed a Brazilian cousin, who was even born a year before her. But not under the name Renault. This distant cousin was christened Ford

There was a thread here somewhere about a guy in Mexico?? whom had shots comparing all the difference cylinder heads between these engines, was interesting!
