It's going to be good! It's hard to clean things up once its all assembled again. I'd be using some soft wire brushes on drill and Dremel to clean up the cam cover, inlet manifold and visible parts of the head now before its all reassembled.
And don't let any of the cognoscenti see that you fitted a Ryco filter instead of a Purflux...
Thanks Richard, yes I'm figuring it will be a good little goer! Ryco, cognoscenti, pff... care not, they would likely have parted her out and sent her silver pealing french steel to get melted down and made into widgets. I even used cheap oil from supercheap to do an initial short run oil change "crazy!"
I must say I do enjoy taking dodgy parts off a car and returning it back to how it should be, it's very satisfying. This car has a matching number engine, and all the original missing or modified parts have been sourced except for a one last dash part. With a new paint job this little silver GTI will be a sweet car.
