504 to restore

I have installed new perspex covers for the dials in a few 504s, and I recommend doing it, if you can find a place that has perspex offcuts. Just look up the yellow pages. And they don't even have to be cut perfectly...a little large or rough outer edge won't show up, though you may have to tack them in place whilst installing.

I used to also rub back the plastic case with 800 grit sandpaper and repaint with a spray can. Used to look like new.
Thanks Beano. I'm in Newcastle and there's a place nearby called Specialised Plastic. I'll give them a try. The face of the cluster is pretty grimy, The coloured part , that is. I'm struggling to get it clean, but I'll keep trying

Just rub it back with 800 grit...it's easy. Pay attention to detail though. It you buy a small can of silver paint which is acrylic, and you find after the first coat that have made mistakes or have imperfections, just re-do that part. Most of my painting is multiple stage. Let it dry and come back later. Sometimes I even put a coat of clear over it all.

Actually, so it didn't look out of place, I used to also paint the rest of the silver plastic on the dash. Those rectangular panels just pop off.

I like the idea. Thanks Beano.

Quick and possibly stupid question....Should replacing the windscreen be one of the last jobs on the to do list? I don't know if I'm better off getting everything else done first to avoid breakage, or am I better off getting the glassware all sorted so that I can "close up" the car? PS: The windscreen is one of the few things that didn't come with the car......
