Xm - head gasket job

that is a nice car, good reading a calm and considered thread.

drove it out of workshop today.
some squirts were taken in it.
with permits...... of course.

i think you are right forumnoreason, its a nice car.

its tight. but its done nearly 400k miles?
it seems to have no rattles. no suspension noises. no gearbox whine. nothing.
not even rattles from the interior. at least none we could hear on the limited work out it got.
says something for its previous owners.
car has been very well maintained.

there are two other xms in our circle - and they are very nice to drive, but they do not drive like this one.

we got a bit of a shock.
we are still recovering from it i think after 7 months of head down arse up in the engine bay.

Thank you @wonkipop for taking such wonderful care of the old spaceship, Sassy. Great to see that you have given her a new lease of life.

you are dead right there gsowner84.
its a spaceship.
its the green. it merges with the glass.
the car is incredible.
whoever ordered it new had taste in spades.

i can see why harry seidler had one.
(but i know he ditched it and went merc. i won't say anything more. i met harry once and he gave me some signed books,
he was a cool cat was harry.)

its on the road and registered.
we had a bit of drama stopping some oil leaks prior to rw.
one in the front rocker cover.
leaked at joint of timing chain cover and head. good thing it was the front rocker cover.
and oil pan.
had to take them off and put them back on again.
amatuer mechanics.

it got a run out to yarra glen and back today to bed it all in.
did it flawlessly.
bit of something loose in front end. worn a-arm bushings maybe.
apart from that. tight.

what a car to drive.

even delivered a citroen moment right at the end.
came to a complete stop in lygon street. everything died.
lights went out. no ignition. nothing. comatose.
pushed it around the corner, let it sit for 5 minutes and then it restarted.
two blocks later the dash lit up like a christmas tree and alarms went on, then it all went normal again.
drove home the rest of the way without disturbance.
might be the battery, which is possibly slightly suss.

Clean up the battery terminals and make sure the wire end clamps tighten up nicely on the terminals rather than just to the other side of the clamp.

Cheers, Ken

thanks UFO.
reckon you might be right.

and....i think we got a bit of both going down.
i hit my knee against the ignition switch in workshop today and shut the car down.
and heading to workshop lit the dashboard up with the indicator doing a turn.
got home from workshop uneventfully on road but careful with knee movements.
at home tried it out in garage with knee into plastic surround of ignition key.
instant shut down.
we need to fix the led screen which we have the kit for, so we will take a good look at it then when we disassemble dash.
in meantime we know how to deal with it.

i love this car.

JAJAE turned up with his burgundy early model today with trade plates hanging off the back.
its got a great interior. really nice, going to be a nice car. flush hub caps. early model.
he was brandishing is split apart front struts that he had replaced.
!!!!

4 xms within 20 metres of each other.
fun day.

3 Parked , 1 in the workshop.
Got to be the ultimate Citroën with due respect to all Citroëns!

We need some more photo's I think!

Also, does anyone have an idea how many XM's were sold in Australia??. I was reading an article somewhere that quoted sales of less than 20 cars in 1997...So I am not expecting too many.

Great story..Love the read

Don't forget the SM, it might be even more ultimate than a XM. Now that's interesting maybe the XM is the M of the X series cars!

Cheers, Ken.
