Keeping the thread alive: Fresh build, 504 long distance rally car, 2 liter, only 140 bhp but heaps of torque.Trial by fire next month at the Acropolis rally; I was hoping to use the 504 V6 coupe, but it will not be ready in time.

I had a 75 GL in the early nineties, always thought the wheels were like paws, it held onto the road beautifully, loved the geometry and the way it sat up on the road, great cars ( I want another sometime) even though the one I had was auto it was a pleasure to get around in, you lucky lucky lucky ....

Ok Thanos....stop teasing us with another 504 rally build!

What are the specs on this car?

Very neatly done by the way.

Nice job Thanos. What are these 504s like before you start? Do you find you have a lot of rust repairs to be done or can you find good solid cars? Are they from Greece or elsewhere?

Pretty much the same as the other ones. Forged pistons, ported head, copper gasket, big cam.

This was a super clean one owner car, accident-free, no rust or dents. But we did strip it down to bare metal so we could seam weld it. The three photos show the white car as it was being dismantled, and two photos show the car in primer after it was stripped down to bare metal and seam welded. 504's are very thin on the ground in Greece, the Egyptians have snapped them up. But the ones we find are reasonably rust free.

Rally photos from last week's event. Typical Acropolis car breaker gravel, super fast 100+ km/h average tarmac stages. The 504 came back fairly intact, wash, oil change and alignment and it is ready for the next one. Hard to keep up with the Integrales and Escorts, so I decided to not look at their times and just drive. Uninspired and uninspiring driving somehow got me to sixth overall, second in class behind the national champion's Escort, and third in category. Only half the entrants finished without a super rally, lots of breakage and exits in gravel, and exits during the tarmac night stages. It was an awesome event, but I would have preferred to run it with the V6 coupe; I was not enjoying feeling dwarfed by the power of the other cars: take a look at the line up in the first photo, the rest of the cars were not that different. The pace was relentless, day two started at 7 a.m. in parc ferme, we finished the night stages at 2 a.m. the next day, then service park till 3:45 a.m., then to the hotel for a shower and a few hours of sleep if the adrenaline (and checking standings) would let you, then back at parc ferme at 8: 00 a.m.

A smooth drive will beat an inspiring drive every time.

Good to see that you keep some of your wheels on the ground!:)

True, but it lacks emotion. I was puzzled and somewhat embarrassed at awards, I felt that I had not driven well enough.

I do, all the time, when the car drives on a straight line on tarmac :)

Great result in the rally!

It looks like you lost the glass out of the right headlight.

Both headlights are gone, they were shattered by gravel thrown by the car in front of me in the first gravel stage. I am happy the radiator was protected by a mesh. I have a fresh set of headlights ready to install.

Posting this here because, well, why not!

I'm still after a classic pug to have on historic rego and hopefully keep long enough so my daughter can drive it and experience a real car in 15 years or so (ok, I want one now too).

I've been fixated on 505's. Many here have told me to think about a 504. It planted a seed for sure.

Question though: Anyone in Sydney that has a decent 504 that would mind taking me for a drive in it? I've never driven one and only ever been a passenger in a 504 Auto. I'd like to see if I even "click" with the car...

Thanks! (happy to buy beer/coffee/wine in exchange)

The Colo Vale car may be possible as I'll be in Bowral soonish. Hmm I had seen it advertised - it's also the same as my birth year.

It's not a case of not finding them - easier than a 505! But i'd like to drive one before wasting a seller time - ideally.

It's actually your car that makes me really want one!

Hi to all 504 fanciers. My '73 Sungold Ti and green 7 seat wagon are a bit more than just tired so there'll be no photos. The reason for me sending this relates to a Peug specialist mechanic by the name of Keith Pascall who left us many years too early. Over the years from the time he started helping me learn about my dark green 404 Wagon he had workshops at Pymble, Wahroonga and Hornsby where he put together an immaculate white 504 wagon powered by an engine which had all the best pieces from the various models that were available to him in about the late '80s or even a bit after. Am sure that at the time of his passing some of the engines from Bob Holden's old Peugeot powered Specials were under his house.
If anyone has information I'm interested to know if his white 504 wagon still survives, and where.
All the best to y'all; cheers.
