Motorkhanas in SE QLD?

I have never seen a 7 as fine as yours my friend. ;)

boxhead,
in another post i was getting abused (cause i love it :whip: ) about challenging people to a race in my dad's westfield. they told me it was an unfair challenge because a westfield was a purpose built race car.
this statement i found quite amusing seeing as its based on a 50s car and the majority still use a live rear axle set up and appaling suspension geometry.

so don't worry mate, i'm with you - they are nothing more than a cortina/escort that got left out in a tornado.

still, i wouldn't argue about the performance, and i would much rather a westy built nicely than one of those crappy alfoil 7's.

if you want to get excited about a clubman, its gotta be an R300 or 500. no question.

oh, and i forgot. its pretty hard to say an open wheel kit car has "non adjustable suspension". i assume you are taking the piss with such a comment, because last time i checked its not impossible to fit adjustable shocks to something you build from scratch.
Cal will verify on 16 May.

 Joking I imagine?

no, dead serious.
its all well and good reminiscing about the past, but Super 7s are just an antique. if you love the look of the aluminium (which i just reckons looks like an unpainted locost) get a PRB.

when i think of a super 7, i think of a restored original with those cheese cutter tyres.

if you have seen a 7 that has been hotted up to actually work well on a track, then i would suggest that IT is a replica of a westfield or other kit car ;)

i won't build a westfield because it looks like a classic, i will build it becuase of bang for your buck

thats my opinion, and i'm sticking to it. its like people who would prefer a GTB to an Enzo. i value performance over tradition, some don't.

were those figures you quoted for a 7 or a westfield? i assume for a 7 you know of.
if they were for a 7, thats hardly standard, which brings me back to my point. to get a 7 going as quickly ROUND a track (not just in a straight line) you would no longer have an original super 7.

not only that, the price difference between a 7 that was comparable in performance to a westy or similar would be enormous. so unless you are a classic car enthusiast (not me), i couldn't justify the extra candy needed to buy a slower car.

for the record, dad's has 129kw, so that's a not, not slow car by your reasoning :p

90 hp (115 kw) with 520 kilos, yep thats a very slow car

Reckon you could share with me your conversion rate from hp to kw?

my nissan has 114kw, so it must only be putting out about 88hp. thats alot less that i would have thought ;)

I'm not getting into this. Wouldn't be right, since I'm tagging along with the Westfield club to the track. Let's just say, give me Boxhead's car over any other that I've seen. Well maybe an R500. ;) Westy drivers aren't going to be happy if a green hairdressers car in quicker on the track.

Cal.

rule of thumb is kw plus 30% ( approximate figure)
Come on Cal, be a man, take a stand :D

thats a pretty fair formula, but how do you equate 90hp is 115kw?

and go for your life Cal, take a stand. for a start your not tagging along with the Westfield club, you booked it independantly, so don't feel as if you owe us anything. secondly, the average age of a westfield member is above 40, so they're not the kinds of people who get all up-tight when someone goes quicker than them. instead they tend to take a more appropriate attitude and say things like "Congratulations", words that are seldom heard in some ****** car clubs.

but i haven't seen too many french cars, no matter how modified, take out a stage outright in Targa Tasmania

Ok, in order of preference, these are the clubmans I would like to own: Dax Rush, Caterham, Fraser, PRB and Birkin. ;)

There ain't much Westfield left in that thing mate.

Cal.

and there's not much suzuki left in that pikes peak car either, or much Falcon left in a V8 supercar, but that doesn't stop them claiming it.

it's still based very heavily on a westfield clubman. anyway, if you want to be tight and not include that in the debate, you've still got 3 road-legal westfields in the 38 seconds around gatton.

and i can't imagine there are too many 'hair-dresser' cars that give Des Edwards a run for his money around Morgan Park, and that's a track that should suit a nimble FWD down to the ground.

anyway, i'm not going to debate over whats better. it all comes down to what floats your boat and what you can afford.

i can say however that PRBs are definitely over-priced. Elfin's are nice though

also, will you be upstairs at GPO on sunday arvo? i think i will be coming along. where do you guys congregate? i will have to pop over and say hi, providing and can rustle up some heavies for protection :D

Bitch be cool. I was joking. Something wrong if they aren't quicker than an MX5.

Last time we were down near the pool table. See ya there. :blackeye: :p

Cal.

sweet as. will try to get there.
and there are plenty of MX5s that could beat a westy. when you said hair dresser car i thought you meant your froggy car, in which case it could probably beat a westy too, i dunno.

clubmans i think are a bit over-rated for performance. i mean no doubt an R500 is truly a supercar, but pretty much anything less in road registered kit is fairly limited as to performance. as you say, Ray's is well modified, so its a bit unfair calling it a clubman.

the biggest reason they are so revered is because of their price. i still can't think that there is any car you can possibly buy that gives you the same race-car feeling for 20 grand.

sure you could get an RX7 or R32 GTR etc to go quicker round a track for comparable money, but its still a big sloppy sedan. turn the wheel in a westy at any speed and it goes there instantly.
plus you will not get more attention from bitches for under $200,000 than in a clubman. that i promise you. they stand out like jap on anzac day

Dax Rush. I saw one of these at Zandvoort last August. It had a 1.8L turbo Audi motor with 400hp. Work well I imagine. :)

yeah that looks pretty nice.
still, i fail to see the need for 400hp in something so light.
even with the 1600 in ours its not the lack of power that hinders lap times, its getting the power down.

besides, they have been sticking V8s in westys in england for year, but thats just adding excessive weight making it like a lead tipped arrow. too much weight up the front and it'll start handling like my skyrice.

one bloke we're mates with is sticking a turbo CA18 in his. sure it will go like the clappers in a straight line, but as if you need more poke than its got. and turbo lag in a 500kg car? :disappr:

Just to drag this thread back on topic. I did round 3 of the Qld Motorkhana championship at Willowbank on Sunday. I had a blast despite having a mind spliting hangover. Some of you blokes should have a punt at one. If you have a CAMS licence, you don't even need to do anything to the car. It just needs to be roadworthy.

Cheers,

Cal.

PS Sorry I didn't let you know I was going Rich.
