Sorry if this isn't in the right section but don't know where else to put it. I'm interested in finding out when and where motorkhanas are occurring around the South East Queensland region as I would like to first go check it out and then maybe give it a go later on down the track. From what I've heard it builds good driver ability and car control. Any information would be great. Thanks in advance!

Rich,

I think you'll find most of this type of activity is usually done as a once a year item by a few of the various clubs.
I know the Ipswich & West Moreton Auto Club used to run the occasional one years ago and I competed in one or two with the CCC of Qld when I lived at the Gold Coast.
It may be worth contacting Alec Lowe or Ian Robinson at Chevron Cars at Mayne in Brisbane as they sell predominantly French Cars & Alec is pretty well involved in doing a bit of competition in his Citroen Light 15 Traction.
They may be able to point you in the right direction. I'd say something like the old Brisbane Sporting Car Club or the Noosa Historic Car Club could be two likely candidates.

Holden Sporting Car Club are the Motorkhana club of Brisbane. THey run the QLD Motorkhana Series mostly at Willowbank. The series is run on handicap, depending on wheelbase and wheels driven. A 306 just creeps into D class by 5mm, don't know about the 206. You certainly don't need a Holden to compete, and in fact probably less than 10% own them. Mostly Dattos and Escorts. Don't think you will turn up in a Pug and not be noticed, they have already been shown the superiority of the French product :D

Hey Richard, I did a few rounds of the Qld championship last year with HSCCQ in the Sprinter. I am keen to do a few this year too. Here is a link to their website with the calendar on it: http://www.users.bigpond.com/doyle.tlsg/

Cheers,

Cal.

PS Your post is exactly what this section of Aussiefrogs is here for.

BTW Round 2 for the year is on Sunday 4th of April at QR. I can't make it AGAIN, because I am away that weekend.

Motokhanas

Champ,
I have a little to do with SPARC (Sufers Paradise Club, but most members in Brissy).

I got an email from them about a 'driver training' day at darlington Park. It is arguably the best track in QLD, if not the bloody scariest. (who plants trees in the run-off?)

Anyway, i think the day was going to cost about $150, and that included lunch and expert tutorials from very well respected drivers.

The day was split into 3 sections - 1) Skid pan, 2) track driving 3) Motokhana competition to conclude the day.

this would probably be an excellent chance to get into that sort of thing without the embrassment of actually being in a comp from the outset.

Dad owns a few vlocks of land at Nanango (north west of brissy) and one of the blocks is vacant.

I wanted him to put down a massive slab with drainage and watering etc and just have a private skid-pan that people like us could use. Unfortunately the legal side killed that idea. I know its frowned upon, but 'hypothetically' my mates and i used to go to a massive roof-top Coles car-park when it rained on Sundays and put down a few witches hats. best cheap fun. sunday trading killed that too! bloody beauracracy

Hey that sounds pretty damn good. Can you email me details to richard@mclarenf1.net? Definitely be interested, any chance you'll be out there as well? Alan Moore was out at QR in his 306 XSi (?) and he does motorkhanas etc and he was gaining through the corners, horse power of the 180 was the only thing that kept me sufficiently ahead of him. I wouldn't say I'm a good steerer but I'd like to improve. :D

Is the Darlington Park event something us lowly Froggers are allowed to go to or are you going to tell us to join SPARC this time? I don't know if you have ever noticed this but members of MG, Lotus, Porsche, SPARC, BSCC, HSCCQ ect ect come together for some club events from time to time ie Mt Cotton Hillclimb. Generally if you are a member of one, it is not frowned apon to compete in the other clubs events.

PS the best track in Qld always has been and always will be Lakeside.

I don't consider tracks with grass growing out of them particularly good. Its fine to dwell on how good it WAS, but it is about time we got over it. There is no chance it will ever be a proper track again. i just hope they allow club events on it at least. still, when dealing with the govt, there really is no chance to present a reasonable case.

As for the darlington park event, its not a sparc thing, they just alerted us of it. i cant recall the name of the group who puts on the event. best bet would be to give the track a call and ask who is the organiser of the event i talk of. i have a printout of the form i got, but i deleted the email.

sorry i can't be of any more help than that.

spose i should finish this reply with something offensive so i get it deleted again. wouldnt seem right otherwise.

Ow come on now Drew, you give us moderators something to do during the day. It's not like we work or anything :roflmao:

I don't know much about Lakeside, but I do know that with Local Council's there are more issues at hand than most people think. Now that local elections are over the presure of now off Christine Monsour things should start moving.

I thank you for your mature response. The fat lady has yet to sing regarding Lakeside: http://www.lakesideraceway.com

Don't worry mate, there was quite a bit deleted from my previous post for me.

Cal.

i am saddened by the fact i was unable to read it. i'm just cut my reply to that other bloke wasn't allowed on. i thought it had some great little calls in it.

as for lakeside, i am 100% wishing it back to life. certainly craps all over QR for drivers and spectators. but honestly, i attended a few of those protest brekky sorts of things, and the councillors that used to turn up were so obviously decided on its fate already. shame really. mate of mine lives at Pine Rivers, and when i used to go there on Sundays you could hear lakeside clear as a bell - beautiful. no all you get to hear are stupid things like birds.

also, and i appologise that this is off the topic, but my mate who got me onto aussiefrogs (initially to look at that clown wanting 500hp 1.8) has a 306. i went for a ride in it the other day and i was a bit surprised how sluggish it was. it just revved out but never really got moving. i assume you guys have done work to yours to get them going better, cause you couldnt do 1:04s with his, no matter how well they handle.
what do they respond well to? cold air, cam and chip, or are they more complex than those 'crappy' RB30s i'm used to?

Andrew, I think that you are forgetting that my car is the 1.8 SOHC 8 valve, which both myself, and almost (sorry turbo306) everyone else knows is a p.o.s engine. These guys that are doing the 1:04/5's i think are in 205's with a 16valve 1.9 conversion, or 1.8 306's with DOHC 16 v's. Quite a noticable difference.

Meow. :headbang:

meow

hahahaha. how embarassing, paying out my mates car and the bugger checks the thread.

i know you'll hate me forever for paying out the Pug, but if anything can make you smile again, i know the very 3 words needed:

RING DA EURO

Ads, i was doing a little bit of quick research on a Hondat forum, and i saw some performance mods for Civics that will probably work on your 306

1) neons
2) No shockies, and cut all but 2 coils off the springs
3) speedo that goes to 320km/h
4) front spoiler that has to be removed before driving over pot holes
5) Intercooler on n/a engine
6) no bonnet.

Hope this helps mate. if all else fails, just fill the boot with subs, thats always good for at least 50 rwkw

Nah mate, I have all of the power enhancements that I need on my car for now, and it sits just above the brake light at the top of my rear windscreen. My Aussie Frogs Sticker of course!! How much was it dyno proven to guys? 25/30 rwkw?

ok, back on topic now.... :trouslap:

The only cars doing 1.04/05's are seriously modified or very fast to begin with. Two 1.9L Mi16 engined 205 GTi's (one of which has 200hp+), a new RX8, a Subie STi and the MX5. Brad's S16 is in my mind the most impressive for what it is....doing 1.06's. I would be impressed if an 8V 306 could manage better than 1.10.

200hp

Oh well i didn't realise people had so much power in their Pugs these days. thats crazy through the front wheels. that must torque steer like an absolute whore!!!
seeing as you know everyone in QLD motorsport ( :D just stirring!), you probably know the fella with the "Hi PSI" Swift GTi? in a straight line that thing is is a machine, but thru a corner it just wants to go straight ahead. surely your FWD's with 200hp+ are really starting to struggle. i mean i know they are renowned for sublime chassis balance, but isnt sticking a donk that big in it just ruining there best aspect? thats an honest question, just playing the devils advocate here.

further to this point, 200hp out of a pug couldnt come cheap. so now i am starting to think that bloke from the other thread is an even bigger clown than before for paying me out about having a $5000 car. to get any sort of speed (sub 1:08s) then you obviously need to be spending some bucks, so 9000 is probably how much he paid for mods alone. in which case i go back to my previous argument that got deleted. if i spent even 5k on my car, it would walk all over him.

thats hilarious. although it goes to show one thing, you guys obviously love your cars if they are worth spending 10,000 on. and for that i congratulate you. money wisely spent on any car is all good. i just think he is the clown who should be deleted for his comments. if i said my skyline is imported from france, will i get more cred? :)

I know Neil's 205 has around 160hp and he is using an LSD to keep traction, not sure whether JR's has but it would want to. I think the key with getting the power down on these things is to create a whole package, suspension, brakes, LSD etc.

The 16v XU9J4 engine is no heavier than the XU9J2 engine they are replacing. Both are 1.9l and alloy blocks.

You could of course stick an XU10J4RS from the GTI6 into the 205 but you'd be adding an extra 30kg+ over the front wheels, however the 167hp out of the box would be sensational. Has bags more torque too but some mods to the 1.9 makes it significantly better. Add Peter T's $250 cam for an extra 15% at the top end and you'd be close to the 200hp mark as well as over 200nm torque.

I actually live with Neil and he is one of my best mates, so know a bit about the 205 Mi16. The $9k he speaks of is including the purchase of the car. He did 99.9% of the work himself in the garage. The LSD was built by the guy you mentioned with the turbo Swift. That thing is mad. I personally don't know of any other normally aspirated cars costing under $10k that lap QR in the 1.05's. Have you ever done the sprint circuit in your Pintara or is 1.08's something you made up?

The clown must reply!

However I will mind my manners.

The total build cost for my car was $9000 that includes the car.

The weight difference is marginal as an 8v head is swapped for a 16v head.

The drive shafts are equal length hence reducing torque steer.

$9000 normally aspirated daily driver that does 1.05's on a track more suited to high HP cars is not bad IMHO. :mallet:
