‘74 DS Resto

Mmmmm, my preference is to cut about 10 mm below the crease..... then fold the crease back inside the door. The new piece also gets a 10mm inward lip.
I then clamp, the 2 lips together.
Fully weld the inside edges of the lips, and only tack weld the outside, about every 25mm. Then filler finishes the crease shape between the tacks.

Happy New Year to all, it’s been awhile.
I solved my stuck sleeve issue by outsourcing to an engine builder in Preston (Vic). Graham, very elusive, rarely answers his phone but looks like a great outcome at a very reasonable price. 😊
Whilst there I had the head checked, that was ok.

General rummage around the other gears. Have to lock them to remove the 5th gear (to clean oil feed), replace Speedo cable whilst there

Tighten up 5th gear

Then reassemble. Easy peasy.
Hand brake spring compressor was very handy getting the springs aligned to get the gear selector back on.
I highly recommend the DS-TT English Toutube videos, ‘Preventative maintenance on 5 speed gearbox’ it was my guide through this process.
Next few jobs will be mating the engine to gearbox (new clutch installed), final checks and eventually hoist the engine & gearbox unit back into its proper home.
A big thank you to those of you who have lent me the tools and advice that has got me this far.
Be back again soon…

Did you add the extra oil feed that is often suggested for 5th gear (or is it already there ? :) ).

Service your front brake calipers too. Put new seals and felts in there. Replace pistons if there is any rust spots on them. Don't ask me how I know this!

Cheers, Ken

Radiator is the next job on the list, then the electrics 😥

Big clean and degrease, amazing how much gunk was about. Brakes have been refirbd, new pads all around, refirbd steering rack, new rubbers hoses & belts

Next instalment soon…

Doing well. With the front calipers, oldtimers would advise slacken the bolts, apply the brakes firmly and then torque the bolts to ensure the calipers are applying even pressure on the pads.

Who rebuilt your steering rack Andy? Pleiades?

PS: good progress! Almost there!

Hi Sven,
In a roundabout way I got it as the previous owner had in error received a LHD one from DerF, he posted it back, freight times being what they are he got his original refirbd by Pleiades, eventually the RHD DerF turned up… I bought that off him.
Worked out well for me as the boots on mine were all torn and I had no idea of its integrity.
Yes, almost there. As you well know it’s a marathon not a sprint

Recondit radiator in, keep having to check - what have I forgotten so I don’t have to do this again…

a bugger of a job, did my head in getting the under tray, brake scoops all lined up and then bolted up right.

Front crome bits a bit of a fiddle, new fibreglass black grill fitted a treat

Electrics doing my head in now. Did a fair bit of labeling, colour coding, photos… but it’s never enough!

I had to buy a yellow paint stick to mark the bolts once fully tightened otherwise I would have been forever checking them.
