Car History

Yeah, l get they're old. I worked in cars for a lot of my life. Besides, I have my eyes on a RCZ.
Modern cars ... they are kinda like appliances to me .... the classics.... I think its because they are so compromised is a lot of ways, that they appeal so much.

The RCZ I quite like for a modern car. I dont' complain about the stupid clown wheels, or the, er, "firm" ride. Its being sold as a sports car, so your expectation should be "firm" ... its quite agile for something that is a heavyweight (my idea of a sports car is old ... light ... not much power ... probably quite crappy, but a lot of fun while its working).
We only have the one here.... 'cos my wife wanted it ... I didn't realise until quite some time after we got it ... they are actually quite an impressive handling vehicle

Nothing I could ever use obviously, the extremes of its handling are so far outside anything I could play with on a public road, that they would never be used. In a lot of ways an 80's hot hatch ... .or even a 2cv is a lot more fun, as you can push it right to its limits and have fun. Something as competant as these modern cars.... I'd be a smudge across the nearest tree if I tried :blackeye:

I've been watching some of the RCZ's that come up for sale... most seem to have done 40 -> 80,000km ... even though they are quite old. I'm after the diesel, every one that comes up for sale ... seems to have 250,000+kms on it. so people after drivers rather than toy cars, must buy the diesel :)

My Merc Mates and me think the same. New cars are fridges. Funny thing. In 1960 buying a fridge was a bigger impost on the family budget than say buying a new Mazda 6 is now.

Houses have gone up an average of 30x since 1975. Petrol has only gone up 4x in the same time period. That puts the 'collective societal whinge' about the cost of things into perspective

I'm afraid I'll definately miss some and there's no way I'll remember the order of purchase (or the year of manufacture) so I'll go first letter alphabetically and best guess the year if I can't remember.🤷‍♂️

I'm impressed not a single Italian motorised vehicle 🙈🙉🙊

I'm thinking the original reference by Armidillo was that I'd bought/sold and bought the Berlingo back again??🤔
Correct.
But if Shane thinks the berlingo is not a real Citroen, then why not 2 cits + 2 pugs + 2 rens? 🤔

I'm impressed not a single Italian motorised vehicle 🙈🙉🙊
The Nikis are a poor cousin though, and the Lada Niva did had a Fiat copy engine.
Strong praise indeed.🤔
I did do a deal for a Fiat Topolino (with my older brother) once, but he backed out of it before I could pick it up.
It was very original, but tired, and I think he realised there was a pretty fair chance it would end up looking like this.😁

I keep looking at Urals, they're nearly a BMW.😉
The Ducatis I like have always been a bit more than I want to spend, same with Laverdas.🤷‍♂️
I did a deal on a Moto Guzzi once that was down the coast, but the guy sold it before I could pick it up.😡

that would probably be perfect. Where could you ever use the extra power on a public road ?? The main thing I'd want is a proper gearbox. Its can't possibly be a sports car with a slugomatic (even if they are actually faster these days, there just not fun!)

I'm deeply impressed iwth the way the diesel version drives. I don't quite understand how, but the motor blips like a petrol motor ( did they forget to fit a big heavy flywheel??) and it nothign like a diesel to drive. The only reason you'd like notice is the limited rev range.

the Kangoo diesel gets itself into top gear ASAP, and runs westwards over flagstaff hill at Linton in cruise without shifting down - not bad for a little 1.5l. Dunno how it behaves in fun mode - turn off the eco-switch and move the gear lever to manual... I've never bothered, probably means I'm getting old.... :)
and no adblue.... :headbanger"

Wow, I prostrate myself to a superior ownership history 👏
What we’re you thinking with the two Fords…😊
The first one I was given by my father, an ex taxi with 400k on it. I kept it for a year and gave it back to my Dad. I think he got $600 more for it than it was bought for because I had improved it.

The Futura BA wagon I bought from the government auctions, 18 months old, 43k, think it owed me $15600 fully registered. It was great. No failures, towed OK, comfortable, sold it at 185k as my wife asked that we have a manual car for my stepson to learn to drive in. We had manual cars, just none we wanted him to be learning in, so bought the 08 Megane. Otherwise I would have kept the Falcon.

I have a 2003 BA Falcon XR6 Turbo ute as a run around car and tow vehicle. Cost me $6000 at auction plus it needed new tyres all round. Has been great and goes like the clappers. Reading "Just Cars" at Bob Janes when getting new tyres and an article was about common things that go wrong with a BA - headlining drops - tick, bonnet cable on the inside breaks - tick. Apart from those issues, it has been great for towing my Alpines, taking stuff to the tip and general shopping. Now it is worth more than I paid for it - bonus.

Now it is worth more than I paid for it - bonus.
yeah I think I paid $800 bucks for the shitbox. Shannons wouldn't insure it for less than $16K  the car market went nuts there for a while. I'm thinking $6k is about right.
