Saw a 1980 R18 GTS in the local wreckers the other day and was interested in getting the gearbox from the car. On the badge on the boot, it has '5 Vitesses' which, to my very limited French, means 5 speed. However, the gear knob, which appears to be the original, is for a 4 speed.
I thought all Aussie R18s had 5 speed boxes. Does anybody know if there were any 4 speed R18s sold here.
Unfortunately, the wheels are off the car and it's sitting on dirt so I can't get underneath to see the type number plate on the unit and the gear lever isn't connected to the box. It's also in a place where it's difficult to lift with their crane (it's surrounded by Volvos, guess they can drive their crane over the top of them, no one is likely to want Volvo parts)
cheers!
