peugeot 607. Any good?

Might be going to look at a 607 for sale.

I am a tad worried, given it has a load of electronic functions and double the camshafts of a 4 cylinder.

Are they reliable, or known to be troublesome?

If you are considering a 607, you would be better off to look at the series 2. They were produced from July 2005.
My wife has one which she will not part with. Being the state service manager of another brand, it helps with the servicing.
If you want to PM me, I will elaborate about the vehicle.

Ditto with the Series 2. They have the six speed Japanese Aisin gearbox as against the grenade 4 speed ZF jobbie.

decision has been taken out my hands. Guy I made a lowball offer on a volvo has accepted. Back to Swedish vehicles for me. Got daughters 307 to maintain though so I will still be around.


If anyone wants a 2002 607 for under $3k with reg and roadworthy, go look on gumtree.

The volvo was written off today. Owned it about 14 hours. Perhaps I am not supposed to go back to Swedish bricks.

Re. 607's - I'd happily have one, but as has been said above, I wouldn't get an early one, mainly because the 4-speed transmissions don't seem to last. The 6-speeds (japanese tranny) seem a lot better.

I think Demannu (on this forum) is still selling his. He is meticulous, and I am certain would never sell anything with a problem. He is in Brisbane (I gather you are in Vic?) but what better way to settle your nerves after the Volvo experience than a long, relaxing drive?

Yeah, nobody hurt. Driving in heavy traffic on way to buy new brake pads, car in front of me stopped rather abruptly.

Tested the ABS function and found it good. The captiva behind me on the other hand...

A couple quotes from the driver: "I only looked down for a minute" "Some people need to learn to drive"

So let me guess what she was doing...
 
I got rear ended in heavy traffic two weeks ago as well. I'm 99% certain the guy that hit me was doing the same thing you're implying she was doing.

I love the size of the 607 and its general look. As the others have said, stay away from any Citroen or Pug with the crap 4 speed auto. You want a later 6 speed auto for trouble free motoring. Don't get conned into the "it's cheap" so is good buying mentality.
 
The 6 speed is good, but regular relatively inexpensive ,oil changes will extend its life considerably ,pugs
 
I am going to avoid this one, based on the feedback here and from the owner. Still looking for a new car, but can't commit until funds available. Hoping a decent C5 comes up as that would suit me very well - a hatchback would be ideal
 
Don't touch them. They're a dealer-service only car due to all the computers/multiplex wiring and they are responsible for turning me off French vehicles. I've never experienced such an unreliable car - despite the supple ride and silky smooth 'box, the amazing seats, appealing dash layout and little extras (electric rear sun blind, motorised boot and even electrically adjustable headrests) it isn't worth it.
It was booked in fortnightly to the dealer for stupid things like window regulators, coil packs, faulty battery x 2 (yet my 406 coupe with 170kms on the clock still has the original packs). This one had 50,000kms on it.
The 605 I owned was literally problem free in all its years, but the 607 sent me first to a Skoda (great car), a MINI (might as well have kept the 607), and now a Volvo xc70 (which is absolutely brilliant).
Try and find yourself another Swede. Never been happier myself.
 
You have overlooked the three months or more, the 605 was in at a Brisbane European specialist, who managed to give it back with something mistimed. (I think, a retarded cam.)

... and they put the accelerator cable on backwards.. but that was the only major issue right at the end after nearly 6 years of ownership - prior to trade in.

That 607 put me off Peugeots for life. You couldn't give me one nowadays and most people I know have had similar experiences and gone elsewhere. Could be why Peugeot's sales are flat.
 
Greencoupe, what year was your 607? I've heard a lot of bad things about the early models, but the late ones seem to have proven to be pretty reliable. Certainly my '05 has needed nothing in 75,000km, and everything still works perfectly. Chassis wise, they are still a 605, and electrically they are a 407. The only thing I've had to do apart from normal servicing is to replace the front brake rotors (at 70,000km), which cost $200 for the pair - they are the same as a 407.

The engine is silky smooth, the transmission also. It's a bit thirsty around town (I get about 11L/100km), but on the highway it will cruise at between 6.5-7L/100km. The seats are wonderful, but the suspension isn't quite as supple as I would like. Sure, the ride is good on a good surface, and road noise is virtually absent for all legal speeds in this state at least, but as many modern cars seem to be it is not nearly as comfy as even a 406.

Steer clear of the first generation. But I have to say that I'm quite impressed with my 607.
 
No shortage of computers and multiplex on Skodas and Volvos either. German stuff, as is Peugeot's. I suspect a lot has come down to luck.
