I reckon I'd probably prefer an R19 16V to just about any Nissan regardless of cost. But I suppose it could be just my French car bias playing a role.

Not too many Renaults I know that were like these - certainly not the 19 - just another appliance if you ask me. Cetainly no manufacturer had a production engine like these cars did.
If the Renault 19 was of a similar calibre to an Alpine A110S or a 10 Gordini then we are talking about something more comparable to this Nissan. mallet

Sorry, Dan, I'm a Renault freak, but the R19 would have to be one of the most ordinary Renault's I've ever driven. It's like a French Corolla (or Pulsar ) It doesn't do ANYTHING better than my 10 year older Fuego (except hold more luggage) It handles worse, it rides softer (but not better), I brakes worse, It's noisier, it's harder to work on...you get the picture...
P.S...The 19 does use less fuel

My cousin owns a R19. Oh-so boring. She only got because it was cheap and had done very few kms. And my uncle demanded she got a euro 'huntchback'.
It didnt seem any more exciting than my parents camry to be honest.

If you comb thru the tradingpost there are lots for sale and for what they cost they are cheap european motoring i think.....IMOI...

all I can say about the R19 is, it makes my BX with trashed/rattly/squeaky interior feel like an incredibly good car. If ever I feel like picking on the BX I just need to drive a Renault 19 for 10minutes to remember what sheer mediocrity is whistle blush
I probably take most modern Nissans over the R19 (then sell 'em and buy a real citroen_ car) roll_lau roll_lau

As for being in bed with Renault I actually drive and have a passion for Citroen. I still love Renault though.
I agree that there are nikis that are cheap euro motoring but comapring that to a R19 is a bit much really... eek!

Ill stick one of the envy stickers on the back of my car but not sire about the volvo sticker yet. That little book was an interesting read wasnt it.
Oh come on its not that bad I had a 19 I thought it was wonderful, very nice seats, a 19 is a good little car for a small family. renault_
