Cold air induction on GTi6

Just fitted a cold air induction system to my GTi6. 3" one piece mandrel bent aluminium tube, silicone hose, stainless clamps and K&N filter.
I will post pic's if somebody can tell me how. The filter resides in the inner guard so it only gets cold air, not like some of the other kits. The car feels stronger but this could be my imagination due to the throaty induction noise. (a mate of mine with a VTEC Civic is a bit jealous!)

hi cookie, thats one of the best things to do aslong u have it in a good spot so you keep getting cold air into it, have you done the exhurst system to your 306,if you have the air filter will make the exhurst system a little bit louder,

G'day,
I haven't done the exhaust as I have only had the car for about 3 weeks. I did the induction because I had a bit of spare time between orders, the mandrel bender is there so why not use it.
It did turn out pretty well. I took a photo but I don't know how to include it in this post.

Cookie,

Email me the pics at macquered@hotmail.com and I will post them for you.

I know how incredibly awesome a setup like this sounds (thinks back to Tekkies car...drrooool) but chances are that you may not have gained much power than before. In fact, you may have compromised some low down torque for some scream up top. Thats all well and good if you like that though, and for most.....that sound is worth the trade off.

The standard GTi6 intake has proven to be a seriously good design.

If you're in Sydney, can you make it to our drive day on Sunday?

This one is only the mockup so it only has a scotch brite finish. When I do the next one I will either polish it or maybe anodise it to match the car. This pipe is welded in the middle, the next will be one piece CNC mandrel bent (no welds).

Im soure I posted a pic somewhere before. stuffed if I could find it, so here is the virtually the same setup on my car.

Cookie, I can see on your picture, how did you connect the breather pipe on your setup?

The intake exhaust combo indeed sounds good even though right now the cat converter developed a new rattle. I think the one of the baffles has come loose.

Interesting. How did you calculate the length of the pipe?

The picture at the start of this post is my intake. The breather pipe is connected via a .750" spiggot welded underneath the main pipe (nice and hidden). I have placed my filter in the inner guard away from any engine heat. We have not tried different lenghts on a dyno yet, but there is really only two ways of doing it, either having the filter pointing directly down and behind the radiator (short), or positioning it in the inner guard (longer and not behind the radiator). On other cars with intake systems, we have found that a longer pipe gives better midrange torque, with no loss in top end power. This is a broad statement and yet to be proven in the GTi6, but I am sure that the benefits of the cold air would make the longer option a clear winner any way.

Peter,

the pipe in my pug has been fitted by the Esscargo, and the development of it has been done by them. As for Cookie's pipe as far as I know longer pipe actually increases flow velocity at lower RPM as the length is increased as long as it is unrestricted by bends and is large enough to provide sufficient unrestricted flow at high RPM.

standard intake is fairly long to start with so with those setups i'd say they are aither the same but with a bit more flow or shorter than the original
i'd be interested for any economy gains

Looks like you did a good job, let us know how it performs... also Esscargo, where are they located, i've seen their web address, but when i've tried it i have not ben able to access it... can someone post a live link, and also their Address..

Cheers,

mitch
