a few 306 questions

Ready for some more praise for the S16?

From Wheels 7/94 Handling Test with comments from Mark Skaife:

"It’s one of the few cars (here) that could handle more horsepower without problems. The chassis dynamics are extremely good and it’s one of the few front-wheel drive cars that has rear-wheel grip to match the front end. What a good little car. It’s one of the better front-wheel drive cars I’ve driven."

Get this: Skaife rated the S16 a better handler than WRX, Prelude, Lancer GSR (turbo 4WD), Integra, Volvo 850 T5, Golf VR6 and Pulsar SSS.

From the same issue of Wheels, an S16 road test. I like the bit about braking.

"Peugeot has even got the back end to dig in under hard braking, instead of jumping up in protest, which adds to the stopping power and stability."

Here's a quote from UK Autocar's roadtest of the series 1 306GTI-6, 4/12/1996:

"...Peugeot has throughout its history built cars that set standards in handling and ride. It's not luck. It's because its engineers understand what good handling is about, and what the enthusiastic driver wants from a car's chassis. What's more, they aren't held back my management or accountants. For example, Peugeot builds its own dampers, rather than using cheaper, off-the-shelf items. It shows.
....The 306 feels surefooted and trustworthy. You can feel the passive rear-steer at work, helping the car turn in sharply. Small adjustments with the throttle further help the Pug tighten its line...
.....Crank 167bhp through the front wheels and the last thing you need is a jittery ride to break traction out of bumpy corners. No such problem with the 306. The Peugeot flows from corner to corner, absorbing bumps without fuss. It's a car that responds to a smooth driver. And the more skilled the driver, the better the car will respond......"

Now that the car is sorted ... its time for the driver to get some aftermarket modifications done. I can see adv. drivers course coming up at Oran park. roll_lau
Can hardly wait. Did the basic course (stage1) in a work Landcruiser, stage 2 in a PUG will be a blast.
anticipation building. :D

tekkie
is that with ian luff ?
if so wait till stage 3 :D
you will need scrubbed in tyres and new pads bedded in for the course though and they check the car before hand so they are serious
brakes and tyres will be a little sadder at the end of the day and you will use plenty of fuel

Yep,, they were pretty professional last time.
Our Cruiser even with ladders and toolkits in the back still managed to outbreak some of the passenger cars. ( and that was with toyota stnd steel rims and tyres)
They stopped us from outrageous cornering manouvers though for the fear of tipping the thing ( i was soo dissapointed :D )
They mentioned that the spins and safety cornering (including finding the car safety barriers) was with stage 2.
Do you kow what is invovlved with Stage3 course?

cheers
