2013 208 GTI engine oil

I also put Castrol on my zipper . . .

Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5w30 has the Peugeot B71 2297 and B71 2290 approvals. Have any members used this oil or another brand that has the PSA approvals.
I have used the Mobil 1 ESP oil on the non-turbo 1.6 VTI engine. It works fine but the oil seems to be very thin. Note: there is actually 2 formulations of Mobil 1 ESP. one is 2290 the other is 2297 so make sure you find the right one if buying.

I am interested to know why a Peugeot specialist according to the invoice used Total Quartz 9000 5W-40 for the 1.6 THP (Prince) engine. Perhaps they found they run better on this or due to our hot climate? Has anyone else experienced this when servicing their car at an independent specialist? Next service in 6 months will be a DIY with Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30.

Likely to reduce the oil consumption vs 5W30 and 0W30 grades. Remember, the manufacturer tries to meet emission requirements and boost mileage, so a less viscous oil might help there. Your mechanic might place more value on reducing the consumption between services.

Gotta love an oil thread. How about the oil from the popcorn?

Perhaps some will find the attached pdf of interest in relation to approved engine oil.

Hi.

That is interesting document, particularly the part about self-cerfication of product by the oil manufacturer would be accepted by PSA.

I was looking for engine oil for another vehicle (BMW LL01), and it was very difficult to obtain oil that was formally certified by the relevant manufacture. Many oils suppliers said the product complied with the relevant vehicle maker standard, but often had a disclaimer to not use the oil for within warranty oil change periods. I ended up getting the dealer to do the oil change.

Cheers.

Recently bought Nulon and Penrite C2 and C3 from Sparesbox on eBay for considerably cheaper than supercheap/repco. Buy 10L or 20L packs as they work out even cheaper.

Shop around and you can find them at similar pricing as non "C" grade lubricants.
