Removing bonded roof 74' D Special

Best sealant for roof?

What is the best sealant to use?

I have bought 3M 540 (polyurethane sealant) to use to bond and seal the roof. The roof has about 9 bolts. Its meant to be black but dries not so black. It is paintable but they say it holds up to the UV if not. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/...8FSO6Q3GD3000000_nid=C32SZP5D0BbeZ0RH29HR0Lgl

(550 is the same but faster). I could use 560 for greater bonding properties but don't think I need it. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/...8FSO6Q3GD3000000_nid=DRNDRHDVMWbeZ0RH29HR0Lgl

Wurths suggested (based on my description, no Citroen experience) "KD bond and seal". Sounds more like the 3M 560

Probably going to go with 3M 540 but open to other suggestions. Thanks.

Hi there

Darrin at Citroen Classics in the UK is using the Wurths product on their roofs. I saw one car they had done while I was there on my last trip.. it sets hard and is permanent.. you can only break the seal with machinery! so you'd want to be sure everything was done and dusted before you sealed it all up. They are using it on the bonded and the bolted roofs as a permanent fix. They aslo use it to bond metal parts together such as the lower door seal strips which are often rusted out at the base. I have to replace one of mine so will be using it for that application.

Colin mentioned the 3M product a while back so I have run a seam of it around my bolted roof to help keep out the rain until I get a chance to remove the roof and do it all for good.
It remains soft so will be easy to remove when the time comes.. it's a bit course as you can see in the pic but it seems to be doing the job.

Matthew:)
