Which Tyres?

I've got a 307 arriving in a month or so, and I can probably put in a request for tyres.

Which tyres would you recommend? I'm used to driving on Michelins & Pirellis, but the 307s are coming with Goodyear, Continental and Dunlop tyres.

Out of Goodyear, Continental and Dunlop, which one is the best? Secondly, should I ask for Michelins or Pirellis?

depends on what kind of rides you preferred..... and also depends on what models of tyres that the dealer's going to give u out of each brand

Goodyear is very comfort in rides, tends to last a bit longer but it's a bit grey in performance. Good in wet.

Continental - just got them on my pug, still testing them out. They are very good at sticking on the ground and also good in wet. A lot of European cars put them on to their new cars in Europe (eg. BMW, Merc)

Dunlop - tends to be the 'average' among the 3 brands. Ok for general rides (a bit of allrounder tyres)

I would either choose Goodyear or Contiental, ask the dealer which model of tyres from each brand they are going to give u.

The Japanese Dunlops are very good(in the dry, alot to be desired in wet), any made in Australia should be left alone
 
The Continental ContiSport 2 won the Motor tyre comparison - best all-round performance by a fair margin.

What type of Continentals do you have on your 206?

Peugeot Australia told me the 307 1.6 is coming with Dunlop, Continental & Goodyears. On the basis of what I've read, I don't want Dunlops. At the moment, I'm leaning towards Goodyears, but Continentals seem ok, depending on what you read. A lot of the UKers on alt.autos.peugeot have complained they're not very grippy, but last forever, because their compound is too hard - but in AU, I dunno whether that's still relevant.

Had a look at the Motor test. Interesting, because I had heard so many bad things about Contis, but now they're 2nd on my list (were first, but then read more bad comments :)

I suspect you are making references to the same brand, but different tyres.

What type of Goodyears, Dunlop and Continentals are the options?
 
Don't know if they are available in Oz, but you could try Goodyear Eagle F1's, great looking tread pattern, good tyre in the wet & the dry.

Bridgestone S02's are recommended by some member's of our club ( <a href="http://www.peugeotsportclub.com" target="_blank">www.peugeotsportclub.com</a> ).

If you're into any form of motorsport then try Yokohama A539's. Road legal, but are also used in several classes of racing over here.

I did a bit more investigation and I can tell that the tyres are as follows:

Goodyear Eagle Touring
Dunlop SP Sport 300E (French made)

I didn't see the Continentals, but my guess is that they're the EcoContact EPs.

Any more comment?

my Contiental tyres are Premium contact with 195/55/15 85H size........ i have a feeling that different dealers may give out different tyres
So far, my tyres been good on the road....

Do you have the 1.6 or 2.0 206CC? Seems you're right on the Goodyears - the SMH says that the Goodyears used are cheap & squeely.

Wonder what Continentals they're using on the 307. I should've looked more closely at the motor show.

my 206cc is 1.6 (with 15in alloys), i think all 1.6 comes with Contis while all 2.0 (16in alloys)comes with Goodyear.

Hey, why don't you go to a different Peugeot dealer(s) and see which tyres that they've got on their 307s. If they've got Contis & Goodyear, then try to have a test drive on the models with different tyres.

After that, you can make up your mind as to which tyres you preferred.

The Dunlop & Conti tyres are actually printed on the tyre placard (DEC01 build) as original spec. Maybe they've given up on the Goodyears - haven't seen any new build cars around. Two 307s delivered today had the Conti Premium Contacts on.

Seems like they're the best quality ones out on 307 XSes.

I had Goodyear Eagle F1s once, in 215 40 R17 size. I thought they were appalling - they gave no notice before they became unstuck.

Also, the tread looked like they were clearly designed for wet weather performance, and they weren't even very good in that department.

Dry braking was especially bad.

I could think of 4 different types of tyres of the top of my head that would be markedly better in a similar price range.

Michelin Pilot Sport
Dunlop FM901
Bridgestone Re711/712
Kumho Ecsta

There are others, but more expensive!

I think your making a good choice 307, I really don't have much faith in Pirelli tyres. My P6000s best traits are above average wet weather performance, very progressive dry tyre, and they're wearing quite well. Actually cornering and braking grip is not that good - especially for such an expensive tyre.
 
I have Michelin Pilot Sport, and i must say they are superb at adding the valuable traction when flying around curves.
