What exhaust?

I always keep reading about how good the standard exhaust is, and the comments have been made by reputable UK pug tuners.
Are you planning any other mods?
Do you want more power or just some noise?

Well im in Nz (briefly) from Saskatchewan so dont know 'dick' about Sydney muffler/exhaust types however I would suggest 2 to 2 1/2 inch from the down pipe (standard headers are good) to one decent high flow 'resonator' on the back. If volume is no problem for you this should do the trick. Depending on what stage of tune you're engine is in. Talk with Peter T about possible upgrades to the ECU and local suppliers.

I doubt you'll get much power from an exhaust, but your best bet is to ask ntrx who reguarly posts here to find out where to go in Sydney.
I think he went to Hi-tech and seemed happy with their work.
Maybe Northshore Rallysport also make 205 exhausts?

Before you start spending too much on "potential" power gains, could I suggest you have a look at this link to a professional in the UK.
From talking to the guys over there, this fellow is well respected, knows what he's talking about, is very abrupt in his views and doesn't swallow "boy racer" theories on performance, puts his money where his mouth is; and he doesn't sit on it eek! eek! evil
He also puts big wraps on some of the PSA motors,

Could give you some ideas on how to get genuine increased performance through practical experience as opposed to theories wink

I keep going back to that website and I always leave astounded with the incredible info and attention to detail. The guy really knows what he's on about.
One thing that bugs me though, is the lack of specifics on that 205Gti exhaust test he refers to where they tested 8 different exhaust systems. Were they complete systems - replacing the headers and all? If so, I think too many variables lie in the test to solidly conclude that exhaust system modifications on a 205Gti do absolutely nothing.
I think a smarter approach to come to a conculsion here, or even a smarter approach to modifiying exhausts in general, is to test for the highest backpressure areas in the standard exhaust system.
Typically, you'll find this point lies in the heavily silenced rear muffler.
If this is the case, replacement with an appropriately sized (ie same inlet and outlet diameter of the rest of the system) straight through muffler that offers less backpressure than the original will offer an improvement in power.
Please tell me how it wouldn't!
The only time it wouldn't offer an increase in power is if the original muffler (or for that matter the most restrictive point in the exhaust that you've tested) shows very little backpressure.
I suspect those exhaust systems tested included different headers and/or had inappropriately sized exhaust diameters. But what else could we expect from boy racer bolt ons? wink
Asides from that rant, I reckon Hi-Tech mufflers are the go. Fantastic customer service, professional work (good welds and hi qual mufflers) good prices and they'll fix you up free of charge if you're not happy with the final results.

I had a sports muffler and exhaust done on my Renault 19 in sydney done at Menai Mufflers. It was very reasonable actually and it is a small business and the old guy there was very decent and reasonable and gave really good advice. Look them up as I was very happy.I would recommend them...
A genuine Peugeot one!

"This can be a nice short section. The standard Peugeot systems are excellent and on a standard or road tuned engine you'll be wasting your money fitting anything else. Only on rally or race engines with long duration cams might it pay to fit a tubular 4-2-1 type manifold and larger bore system but that's outside the scope of this road oriented tuning guide. Also beware of non Peugeot standard replacement systems. You might save a few pounds but also lose a goodly chunk of bhp into the bargain."
