Has anyone on here had any experience with a VAL Racing LSD in a BE3?

There seems to be two kinds:
- 'hard': https://www.val-racing.ru/avtomobili-pezho-i-sitroen-stepen-blokirovaniya-zheskaya
- 'easy': https://www.val-racing.ru/different...ugeot-i-citroen.-stepen-blokirovaniya-legkaya
(with the difference explained here: https://www.val-racing.ru/vybor-diffentsiala)

The diffs are quite cheap compared to alternatives: AUD$400 (or AU$330 in quantities of 5 or more) plus shipping (AU$170 for one, or AU$400 for 3). On that basis you could land 6 diffs in Australia for about $470 each, which is (as I understand it) well under half what a similar Quaife product would cost.

Thanks @Reidar - those ones on eBay are the same, I think.

Yeah, I might order a couple and see what happens - how bad can they be?

Yeah, @alan_505, I noticed that on the eBay ad when I first saw it, so I got in touch with the manufacturer - they're happy to ship to Australia, for the prices quoted above.

I've seen lots of reviews of track 306s on their facebook page over time. They post specials routinely on facebook. Definitely made in Russia. I know a local Fiat guy who has put a RWD one of their diff's in their Fiat 124 and is happy also.

The price is very sharp. I don't have experience with the Quaife however I understand they are a direct fit, where as with VAL racing I see mention of definitely needing to shim the diff to sit centered when installing.

I'm certainly interested in these but don't financial resource at the current time to be part of a group buy.

Yeah, I've read about various kinds of hijinks around fitting a Russian diff to a Fiat. For example: https://www.villevieri.com/egbox.htm.

Looking at the Lads Samara diffs, and comparing to a BE3 diff, there's not much difference.

BE3: https://205.si/assets/transmission/val-racing.ru-be3-lsd.jpg

If they didn't make BE3 diffs, you could probably fit a Samara one, with (with a bit of work). There are couple of more issues, including the absence of a speedo drive.
  • Splines match.
  • Diff bearing inner diameter is 35mm (Lada Samara) vs 38 mm (BE3). This can be fixed by having couple of bushings made with an inner diameter a fraction under 35 mm, heated and then installed.
  • It is also necessary to use a use thick washer under right side diff bearing.
  • Final drive and diff must be machined to center the final drive and to bring it to the right position; new holes must be drilled into FD.
I guess if you really wanted a cheap plate type LSD, you could use a Samara one - they only make the torsen geared diffs for BE3s.
