Looking at buying 2009 C4 VTS. Need towbar for light towing. When googled nearly fell off chair at prices, then read threads here.Realised the cost is in wiring. Most threads I could find are getting a bit old soooo. Has anybody successfully fitted towbar on VTS? For example model from Towbars australia. Is kit truly plug and play or lots of trial and error. Also am not clear on need for dealer reset/activation. Any comments appreciated. Also any general comments on VTS also welcome. Viva la France.

A towbar for a C4 was never that common and, yes, there would be an extra wiring kit to interface with the car. Ateco had a habit of making local towbar hardware and there were often slight variations between the different models. I would look here to begin with and see what you can arrange with David C - it's from a 2008 hatch model. As a specialist wrecker he would know what is required to be taken from a wreck for the full installation. I'm not sure if there is any variation between the 'hatch'/sedan and coupe towbars. The bumpers are different between 3 and 5 door cars, but the rear underframe looks to be common. You might want to measure how far out the rear bumper face protrudes from the back of the body and compare it with a hatch. For C5 pre-2009, there were at least 4 versions of the towbar as the bumper and exhaust changed with the 2005 facelift.

Ta for that I was going to ask about exhaust as that seems to be part of the issue with fitting.
