Best way is either to drive straight through town, then on top of the hill out of town (on the Tenterfield Road) you see the Morgan Park sign, turn left, then right at the roundabout.

Have a good day, lads...

Was a top day, thanks Cal. As a thankyou Cal got a ride in this little puppy, and I scabbed one too. This is Ray Vandersee's Targa tasmania Clubman with S2000 running gear. Ow my, you guys would never believe how fast this thing is.

I've got a heap more pics which I'll post up shortly.

Why not?

They are very light, mostly a road going one will top out at about 550kgs. Freedom of design in the rear axle gives them plenty of traction... and power is only a bonus.

They outbrake everything, corner well... what more can you ask?

Oh, yeah, they're not real expensive... I raced one for a couple of years and I had nothing...

I've driven a real Super 7 and this thing is completely differrent. Inboard suspension, underbody venturies, rose jointed everything, carbon panels, Honda S2000 motor and gearbox and I think it weighs under 500kgs. They finished 9th outright at Targa in it this year and would have finished 5th, if it didn't snow on Arrowsmith. Serious weapon.

Rose joints I understand, compound curve panels in carbon I understand... but why inboard suspension?

Except to give some rising rate, which is something of a black art and denigrated by some serious designers, this is all negative. Extra weight and complexity, extra wearing points that build up to extra lost motion.

So how did you like the Seven? Bearing in mind that they date back to the early fifties... basically unchanged... it must have given you some idea of what potent machines these can be?

It was a wonderful experience. I've also driven his Elan. He has 2 Elan's. One of them is the ex Bill Gates car I was telling you about a few years ago. When I have the opportunity to drive cars like these from the early 60's it makes me think about how awesome they must have been compared to lumbering Holdens, Humbers an other family barges of the day. A series 1 E-type must have seemed like it was from a different planet. Here is a photo of Jeff's 7. Truth be told, it's not a real one. It is a bolt for bolt perfect replica. It's so good Lotus experts can't pick it. It's for sale for $30k if you know anyone interested. I'd buy it if I had the money.

I thought the really early Lotus 7's had a Climax motor? This thing is a S3 Super 7 replica. The wheels are period. Used them on the Zakspeed Escorts if I remember correctly.

Some may have, but very few... probably more Mk 6s had Climaxes, especially those with de Dion rear ends.

The Mk 7 was a real 'poor man's kit car' and most of that period got the 1172 side valve Ford. There would have been some BMC A-series used too. When the Anglia came along their fate was sealed... it was virtually all Ford from then on.

Those wheels look like a local breed...
