Hi Guys,
On friday just around the corner from where I live the headlights suddenly went from amazing headlights ... to god damn it's just become midday again   And the blower fans started actually moving some air in the car for the first time ever followed closely by low beam dying ... I thought that's bloody weird and hit the switch for high beam to see if it was a problem with the switch ... High was bloody stunning ... Never seen headlights like it ... for about 5seconds until they went out too :disappr:
Today when i drove the car I found the alternator belt was screaming ... Well I put the car in the shed and put the multi-meter across the battery ... Hmm, 11.5volts with the motor revving
I found the '+' terminal on the back of the alternator had come away. So I soldered a new terminal onto it ... Nothing .... And no idiot light on the dash, and no 12volts at the exciter on the alternator... Much head scratching followed ... At which time I thought "Blown dash warning light bulb, if it's blown there is no exciter circuit", so now I have the dash in bits... change the globe ... Yes !! Now I have power at the alternator exciter.
Start the motor 13.5volts... Perfect  give the motor a rev 14...15...16....17....18volts Followed by me freaking out and sprinting into the car to switch the ignition off.
So I pull the alternator out and fit a voltage regualtor that I have in my pile of parts here and she's charging perfectly again... Only the headlights.... Well the would you believe all the globes were blown ...... There duel optic headlights ... The 90/100watt main bulbs are both gone ... the 100watt inner optic globes are blown ... this is gonna cost me a bloody fortune just to replace the blown globes...
I however think I'm extremely fortunate ... 18+++ volts and no computer fried in the car ... Everything still works !!!
seeya,
Shane.
