Hi, i have an 1108 motor, i would like to put a renault 12 head on it as i'm told the 1108 will breath better and run a little better. Does anyone know of any problems i might run into.
The head has been fully reconditioned.

Hi Rob,

The modification you are making is essentially the difference between a standard R10 1108 engine, and the later (for Australia) R10S.

Provided you have comparable combustion chamber volumes in the R12 head (which will determine the compression ratio), then all you need to do is match it all up with a R10S type induction manifold, or a R12 type, plus Weber carburettor.

This will give you approx 10 extra horse power, and if you add extractors, the breathing and top end performance is even a bit better.

Just make sure the 1108 engine is not too tired (they are generally quite bulletproof if looked after), before you explore the additional performance too much.

A distributor changeover (to a R12 type) might also help, but this needs to be accurately worked out.

Most 1108 engines have been replaced with 1289 R12 vesions.

Cheers,

Kim.
