Try rocking it side to side, if it's never been off they can get sticky! Some WD on the splines may help as well.

Loosen the nut a couple of turns, use your knees to hold pressure on the steering wheel towards you, and using a hammer and drift gently tap the steering shaft.

This advice does not apply if you have an air bag.

Loosen the steering wheel nut a few turns, but leave it on so you don't brain yourself when the steering wheel pulls free.
Hold the top of the wheel, and whack the bottom out with a rubber mallet. Then hold the bottom, and whack the top.

If that fails...
Wind down the drivers' side window. Place right foot on A-pillar/doorpost.
Grasp steering wheel by the hub or spokes and PULL.
(Make sure the nut is in place!)

st wheel removal

Yep, leave the nut on the end of the spline a bit to prevent the wheel coming off with force and knocking out all ya teeth!!! Ouch!!!

If the wheel looks likes it aint gonna budge go get a steering wheel puller from supercheap or similar place...should be about $10-12 and worth the money. It's the only way. Had to do this on another project car where the wheel had not been off in 40 years....spent days nearly injuring myself. Got a wheel puller and it popped right off in 5 minutes.

Good luck.....

Thanks Guys I'll give it another go.

Ps just as well I didnt get it off as I took the nut off completly :)

you only do that once
when you realise that you have the wheel embedded in your head you sit and wonder why you didn't leave the nut on a few turns

i did that with a commodore once, and it damaged the stearing rack by breaking a seal and bearings in the rack..
