Re: BX for sale

hmm, that would make a nice little companion for my private import GT. They could be twins in white. Same wheels and colour.

Would they need to put a cat on it for it to be complienced?

Dave

Ours didn't; all they insisted on with it was the seat belt anchorage for a kids seat.
Let's be honest, if they insisted on that, they'd need to do it on FJ Holdens and a lot of other stuff too as they came standard without a cat so not feasible to expect one to be fitted as an aftermarket thing. :2cents:

Thats what I thought Alan as obviously my GT was complienced without - but its an older car. I just thought since there were 16Valves in Aus they would want it to be made then same re emissions etc.

Hmm, how much is shipping from over there? A high compression 16Valve would be nice. Ready for a nice PeterT cam and an ECU.

Dave

Bring it in as a parts car. I'll give you a BX19tri set of ID tag ...... :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

It will need to be registered as a BX19 tri :D

LOL I like the idea of a sleeper but I believe such a car should be preserved.

Dave

You wouldn't need to make it a sleeper, leave it a bog standard BX16valve GTi. It has a 1.9litre motor just like a BX19tri ... and hey you really think they'll know the difference up at Vicroads :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

I meant I woulnd't want to change the badges - GT's only for me.
:wink2:

Dave

Edit : although in a few years GT/i might have to be substitued for VTS badges

Not the case actually; we were sold the BX 16 Valve

This car was designated the BX 16 Valve GTi

A comparison could be drawn (in a rather rough kind of a manner) between the Nissan Skyline we had out here and these Skyline GT-Rs that are being imported hand over fist.
I would be inclined to get a decision from Transport Depatmnt (in writing) before I started putting $$s on it. Remeber also, this is a bit like e-Bay in that the car is still open to offers but Kiwi prices are a bit like UK ones, much less than ours but I don't know if they have reserves on them either.

In regards to compliancing, if it's not complianced to Australian standards, it would not be be able to leave the docks? Or would i be able to have it sent to a french specialist to be worked on? What about the 15 yr old rule?

This great, except that it's listed on some stupid NZ auction system... hmm where can i get my hands on the sellers details.

I thought you already got a 16V off a friend??

Dave

Nah.. he backed out :(

Anyway, i lead the bidding at $2,000 :)

Which is the reserve price... amazingly low.

Who cares if it can't get complianced, it would be pleasure to park it next to the Jag.. (forget about that dud - C4).

You should be able to bring in anything over 15years old. This is a 17year old car. You shouldn't have a problem (though do check as the rules appear to change daily  ).

My CX was first registered as an '86 model in the UK, however it's build date is in '85. So my father registered it as an '85 model. This meant he didn't need to worry about ULP fuel (any pre-'86 car doesn't need modification to only allow ULP in the tank. The fact you can NOT buy leaded fuel appears to be irrelivent   ).

It might be interesting to see how NZ standards compare with Aussie ones.
Can't see a problem leaving the docks uncomplianced as I went out to the joint that complianced my sons GT-R just after it arrived in the country, they don't do it at the wharves.
Tyres, intrusion bars, seat belts and anchorage for child restraints were all supposedly checked as well as something to do with the fuel filler.
The "Owners Manual" on a grey import is another culture shock! :roflmao: It's hand writted or typed by the people who do the compliancing, some with not real good tipping and spulleng skills quite often.
