One thing I've overlooked in suspension work on the R12 Virage is replacement of the tension rod bushes with a nolathane equivalent. I'm sure this must have been covered in a previous thread, but am I wasting my time looking for an R12 listing, and if so, can anyone recommend an equivalent from another vehicle.

Cheers

tension rod???

I can only assume you mean the castor bar. The link that goes from the top wishbone to the front of the chassis??

This is similar to some anti-roll bar/shock absorber bushes, so you may be able to match it up with something.

Good luck.

i thought he was talking about a Torsion bar....

well doesn't that show my inexperince in these cars.... hahaha

Have you tried Caravelle Imports in Melbourne? They seem to have a good range of new parts for R12.

Caravelle definately has rubber bushes for the castor bar, but it sounded like he wanted nolothane. I really dont think nolathane would make much difference.
Just tighten the rubber one up a bit more than normal to prevent movement when getting on the brakes or gas. The worse that will happen is the bush won't last quite as long.... 2_cents

Too much time spent with Datsun 1600's has made me slack with terminology ... yes, I'm talking about the castor bar. 12 Virage is a track car with uprated springs, shocks and sway bars. Fitted a new set of standard castor bushings just 12 months ago, but they have already started to split up - from over-work I think. Can't be over-tightening of the castor bar nuts since internal steel sleeves dictate their final positions.

Anyway, a visit to the local Marlow's Auto Accessories outlet yielded a set of Escort castor rod Nolathane bushings which will be near enough.

With bushes it is worthwhile paying the extra and going Genuine Renault. I've found the pattern bushes just are not up to the standard of the originals. The pattern ones generally being a lot softer and likely inferior compounds to OE.
