Hi.
I have heard the thermostats housings are expensive and made of plastic.
Was thinking of making one from aluminium.
Anyone know cost of original or if there is alloy ones out there.

mine was just replaced on our 2009 RHR engine 2.0 HDi as it had failed at 230K kms (developed a leak at one of the joints), as mentioned above OEM ones are $100-$110, I got mine with new gaskets and included a new temperature sensor too

Make your own if you can, but there is a thermostat valve and sensor involved. It is the junction of all water passages and very complex. I'd buy one.

eBay isn't always the cheapest or quickest.

I presume xlink-nz used the place I suggested for that price. Even if you buy from a reputable European source you'll pay about $50 for the housing and the same for air delivery within the week, so still around the $100 mark or a little more, depending on the engine.

Dealer prices are much higher.
