Hello Fellow Froggers,

About time i do a build log.
A bit of background i owned a 206 GTi and a 306 S16 some time ago, back when i was working for Peugeot in fact. So now im back at Peugeot after 4 years and when i saw a 2007 207 GTi pop up on this forum needing some work but very well priced i jumped on it.

So some details - because i know alot of you will ask as it was priced very fairly, so i will list all the issues i have found - eventually i will sell this as its only going to be a little fun project until a nice GTi6 comes along.

Details:
2007 Peugeot 207 GTi
Shark Grey
129,xxx Kms

Bodywork:
- LHF Guard has a small dent (Will get someone to PDR it)
- RHF Mirror base has a scratch (looks like it will polish out but if not i'll get a replacement)
- Small marks on RHF Door handle (will live with)
- Moon Roof (Factory Option)
- RHF Headlamp is cracked (needs to be replaced for RWC, and is so far the hardest part to source second hand as the car has the painted option)
- Front bar has stone chips (will live with)

Interior:
- Gear knob is worn (looking for an option other than OEM)
- Two small splits on the drivers seat bolster (quite common on GTis of this age)
- Drivers Carpet mat has obvious wear marks (Awaiting a replacement set)
- RH Door trim has some small signs of wear on the suede

Suspension, Wheels & Brakes:
- Brakes all round in great condition (will paint calipers and upgrade when required)
- Front Sway bar links are missing (Having new ones fitted)
- All 'Pitlane' alloy wheels have minor rash
- Rear tyres require replacing (Need to be fitted for RWC, so am just getting some new cheapies to pass as i want to change to OZ Racing wheels anyway)
- All the rest is in RW condition and will be upgraded to better items as required

Engine:
- Full Timing job Required (Guides, pins, chain etc.. etc.. all getting replaced at the moment)
- Rocker Cover weeping from timing side (common - getting replaced with the timing job)
- Turbo Oil Feed pipe is leaking (common - will replace when i get the braided piping kit from Detroit Tuned)
- Oil Filter Housing seal (while not leaking, it is right near the Turbo feed line and may as well replace both at the same time)
- Water Pump has signs of crystallizing (getting replaced during the timing job along with fresh coolant)
- Lower Engine mount broken (getting replaced at the same time as the timing job)

All in all there is about 2k+ to spend to get it not only Roadworthy but driving properly now and into the future.

Future Plans:

As mentioned above this is only meant to be a small project/daily driver as such. My goal is to make a bit more fun to drive and look at. would love to get to 200hp at the wheels and have a nice exhaust note with a couple little additions to the body work

I've already started that down that route by purchasing the following items:

- Irmscher / Walkinshaw Front Lip
- Irmscher / Walkinshaw Side Skirts
- Irmscher / Walkinshaw Rear Hatch Spoiler
- Irmscher / Walkinshaw Lowered Springs (30 mm)
- Forge BOV (vent to atmosphere)

Next Mods:

- New wheels (OZ Racing seems to be the top of the list)
- P3 Boost Gauge (if i can custom fit it to the drivers side air vent, if not i'll look at other options)
- Alloy Intercooler (will source my own as the Airtec & Forge are stupidly expensive)
- Alloy Piping & Silicon joiners (Will have this custom made)
- Phase 2 Motortrend Clamps (Best clamps you can buy for intercooler piping)
- Cold Air intake (might make a custom airbox as well to sit at the front)
- Baffled Oil Catch can (looking like the small Mishimoto is the way to go)
- Decat down pipe with O2 sensor bypass mod
- Etuners Stage 1 tune

And time for some photos:

Might be able to help you with the headlight and forge BOV. Pop me a PM.

Also the 30mm lowering H&R spring kit sold by Walkinshaw is a great mod ... changes the stance without making ride uncomfortable. Brand new stock can be picked up on eBay quite cheaply now too.

UPDATE:

Today stage one of the 207 - really need to think of a name for it, suggestions - has been completed.

Parts replaced:
- Full Timing (all guides, chain, seals, etc.)
- Water Pump
- Coolant
- Rocker Cover & seals
- Lower engine mount
- Front sway bar links
- Rear Tyres

Im still trying to source a RHF Headlight and at this stage if i can't get a good 2nd hand one at a reasonable price, i might need to go after market - something id rather not do as i like the dark tinted housings. That will cover my Road worthy and she will be ready for the road.

Now i need to wait for a few items to arrive from overseas (and save up) before i start the next stage and do some preemptive maintenance and free up some power.

Plan is to do the following:
- Decat Down pipe
- o2 Sensor Eliminators (Upstream & Downstream)
- Oil Filter Housing Seal Replacement (Preemptive)
- Detroit Tuned Oil Feed Kit

In the meantime i've ordered new carpet mats to replace the old torn ones, a pair of front shocks since they are 10yrs old and a NOS 207 key ring because, why not :wink2:.

I also picked up the Irmscher / Walkinshaw kit - really gerat bits can't wait to send them for paint.
The rear hatch spoiler will be surplus to my needs since the GTI already has a nice one, so i've posted that for sale.

Anyway here are some more clearer photos, enjoy

UPDATE:

So still not having any luck with the headlight, im now waiting for a wrecker in the UK to message me back to see if they are willing to ship one to Australia.

In the meantime ive been looking at more parts to add to the car and started i looking into oil catch cans, water/meth kits and even intercooler water sprayers. As eventually id like to do an occasional track day at Winton and even a hillclimb or two.

I eventually settled on looking for an oil catch can as that will be the most useful modification to begin with.

For those who dont know all Direct Injection engines suffer from oil and carbon buildup on the intake valves. Due to the injectors being in the combustion chamber and not in the intake runners. After awhile they become clogged up because of the way the air fuel mixture cycle happens thus reducing performance and economy. There are many ways you can help reduce these effects and one of the simplest and vost effective is by using an oil catch can.

With that in mind and knowing what a tight environment the 207 GTi engine bay is i decided to look for a small two port catch can. There are a few out there but i went for a quality one from Mishimoto. Main reason being its a baffled unit, compact and in a satin black finish as the coloured and polished ones add to much 'bling' to the bay.

https://www.mishimoto.com.au/compact-baffled-oil-catch-can-2-port.html

Next item on the list was something more of a personal preference to make the cockpit more interesting 🤣 i purchased an Omori boost gauge.

When the catch can arrives ill be sure to do a DIY for those that are interested.

Hito,

Can you provide more info on where you got the catless downpipe and more info on the O2 delete. My sons car is in need of it.

Great thread btw.

I'm unconvinced on the worth of an added catch can (there's one built into the cover). There are two crankcase vents to intercept as well as the turbo bearing. Low ash C2 oil such as Quartz Ineo ECS makes more sense - the ash does the clagging, not the combustible part of the vapour.

Jump on Ebay its about $150 AUD search " Peugeot 207 GTi Decat " and it should give you a few options

Correct there is one built into the cover, which is prone to clogging, it is also the reason why the rocker cover is prone to crack.
Low ash oil does help, as does using 98RON fuel and giving the car a good thrash now and then, also water/meth injection helps too.

However through my exp with these EP6 engines i would suggest doing this modification as recommended by Etuners.

Peugeot themselves do this with the RCZ too so there is method in the madness. Running a Oil Catch Can is just one piece of added filtering and security - i'm mostly doing this as i plan to be giving the car a hard time on the track.

UPDATE:

Unfortunately not all good news.

So my Mishimoto Compact catch can arrived and it is great! however one flaw i have found is the fittings they supply. I was expecting them to be 1/2" NPT metal parts, however they are actually plastic! This is the only issue i have with the product otherwise its very very good. So now i will have to get suitable fittings which isn't all bad as i'll end up with some nice black metal ones.

Secondly, it looks like my HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump) is about to die, i was able to use the scan tool and Turbopug was able to lend his assistance to determine it need replacing, so after just doing the timing chain & guide repairs now another rather large expense - looks like some mods will be pushed back yet again!

However some good news i've managed to finally track down a replacement headlight, with the nickle plate (darkened) housing although used it will at least be matching and better than the aftermarket option. So that will be ordered in the coming week and the braided oil feed line kit. I'll still wait until i get the decat down pipe prior to fitting as i hate doing the job twice if i can do it once and do it right!.

UPDATE:

Not letting the HPFP issue stand in my way i started collecting parts for my custom FMIC & Cold Air Intake kit and the other bits needed for my catch can setup.

For the FMIC & CAI i've just ordered the following:

2x Turbosmart Hump Hose 2.5" (Black)
These will be used to replace the standard ones in the same position.
1x Turbosmart Straight Hose 2.5" (Black) (60cm long)
Used for the lower part of my FMIC setup and also for my CAI.
1x Turbosmart Tee Hose 2.5" / 1.5" Spout (Black)
Used from the turbo into the CAI, the spout is used for the Catch Can.
2x Aeroflow 3" - 2.5" Hose Reducers (Black)
From the intercooler outlets into the alloy piping.

To finish my catch can setup i am using:
2x Aeroflow 1/2" NPT Barbed Fittings (Black)
These will replace the plastic ones supplied in the kit
1x Aeroflow Clear PVC 12mm piping (3meters)
To make up the catch system

And to finish it off i've ordered my intercooler:
Cooling-Pro 450x300x76 3" Outlets

Next up will be the Headlight, HPFP & intercooler piping.

UPDATE:

Some good news has come about. While hunting for a spare headlight for my GTI i came across a guy wrecking a 207GT...with 30,000km!. So after a couple days of back and forth we struck a deal and i will be receiving a HPFP (yes a new part would be much much better but considering the price & the kms on this one its worth the risk), Both headlights, a gear knob (to replace my worn one) and some other small bits for an excellent price. This means that although i wont have the darkened GTI housing headlights (which i really would prefer) i will have a pair of headlights that match, have the same features (cornering lamps etc..), aren't UV damaged and matching! These parts should hopefully arrive on Thursday, so the plan will be to have them fitted asap.

Also just before leaving work my Silicone hoses, catch can fittings and PVC piping arrived, along with my cooling-pro intercooler. My friend from interstate also sent me a vent to atmosphere diverter valve spacer that he purchased but never fitted - not a forge unit but some knock off - but its just a chuck of alloy with holes cut and no moving parts so provided it fits it will work. So i will fit that too because why not? haha.

So plans for the weekend:
- Fit HPFP
- Fit both headlights
- Test fit FMIC (make a mounting bracket if possible)
- Fit gearknob
- give the car a good clean inside and out.

For those who are following this thread when i test fit the intercooler i will take photos and eventually do a write up so that anyone with a 207 GTi/GT or HDi will be able to save some cash instead of forking out the crazy money for the Forge or Airtec items.

cheers!

Yes. Ill be doing that aswell.
The hose that runs off the top of the rocker cover will be blocked as will the other end to the intake manifold.
The outlet from the rocker on the side will feed into the catch can and then back into the turbo intake pipe.

Happy to provide diagrams to explain better if interested

I did it to both of mine have a look at my pics

If you look on you YouTube my 1st white is on there too just look up peugeot 207 gti gorge bov catch can pcv delete...

UPDATE:

So i finally was able to take the car for a propper drive on Saturday and strech its legs on the freeway. Besides needing a wheel alignment the car drove very well. Was great to get back into a hot hatch again.

Once home i decided to give it abit of a clean, fit some parts and do a upper engine clean.

Starting off with a quick clean of the interior, while not filthy it did need a good clean snd even now i might need to give it another once over. I removed the old non genuine torn mats znd fitted dome genuine 207 ones front and rear.

Next up was the gearknob which was clearly showing its age. So that too has been replaced with a excellent used condition one.

Before:

After:
1528017893602.jpg

Next up was the diverter valave spacer. Basically a BOV took all of 10mins to fit and gives the little 207 a nice 'chhhhh' sound

1528018033790.jpg

Sunday however wasnt as great. After giving the car a wash on my way back home the dreaded depollution fault was back along with misfiring... it appears the 2nd hand HPFP i was hoping to get away with using is also a dud, no choice now but to buy a new one. Since i was unable to drive the car i figured i may aswell replace the headlights.

Its actually a rather easy process to replace them, ive taken photos and if theres interest ill do a DIY.

Looks so much better!

1528019421297.jpg

While doing this i noticed more scratches and damage to the front bar than i originally thought, the clear is peeling in a couple areas and the bar mould definitely needs replacing. So now i might just get it completely resprayed and have my front lip extensions fitted at the same time.

Cheers

Which original tinted head light do you have? My 207 was in an accident before I got it and they replaced the passenger side headlight with the clear one, so they don't match.

If you have a passenger side gti one I might be interested in taking it off you.
