Shaun,

I think at the old work we would have topped that car count of 504's, 505 and alikes. Maybe not that many 404's! Shame they are just sitting. I reckon our mates in arab land would be turning in their beds if they saw that many pugs rusting in a yard!!

The real tragedy is that most of them are en-route to Arab land right now...

It's at Bungendore, the PCC of Canberra's collection.

Hi Ray,

Yes must say i sent about 200 off in my 2 year stint at the wreckers. My old boss thinks he must have sent a couple of thousand off. Its a shame more people don't look after their cars and really care about them!

What a shame! Is that Richard's place? I've bought parts from him before and he is a friendly helpful person. Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick but why would anyone who has that many Pugs (and must be passionate about them) sell them to the Arabs when there is a call for them here? Ray, are you serious?

There was also another post with pictures of Pugs being lifted onto a semi with a forklift as I recall, I can't find it for the life of me.

We have a Parts/Cars for sale section on this Forum!

Fill us in on the story and don't talk cryptics! What a waste.

Ralph.

Ralph,

I spoke to Richard on the phone a few months ago and apaprently all the 504s and 505s which were sold to the Arabs didn't actually belong to him but somebody else in the Canberra club. Apparently they were mostly pretty stripped anyway.

Out of the 203s, 403, 404 which were there Richard has been stripping all the ones which were beyond hope and stashing the parts in his shed. He has kept about 10 cars which were ones which are capable of being restored incase anyone wants them. This small remaining stash of cars will be hidden from view from the main road and adjoining properties.

He had to do all this under extreme pressure from the local council.

He said he will be picking up more Pugs as the years go on, but he's going to make sure they're stripped and packed away in the shed before council can complain again.

Hi,

THe reason behind all the 504's going to arab land is people in australia don't want to pay what the arabs can pay! And so many have gone over there its not worth keeping parts for cars that aren't on the roads anymore??

Nick

Hi Ray,

Tend to disagree with that. Since nearly all the 504's i have seen go off are not fit for the road. All the people selling these cars to arabs are wreckers anyway who already have large stock piles of parts so the extra cash helps them out.

Yes, a wonderful sight. Fields full of dead Pugs, if only they designed the cars to last longer or make them worthwhile keeping! :)

So tell me... what happens when we want some bits in a few years time, the kind of bits you don't buy new but get from a wrecking yard?

If the yards sell them all to the Arabs, where do we get the bits?

The real problem is that most Pugs don't require much in the way of parts... wreckers find them to be slow stock, so they crush them. And if an Arab drops buy and asks him to keep all the Pugs for him, he'll jump at the chance.

Too bad for homegrown customers...

I'm building my own stash, I won't ever own anything newer than a 504, so I have to be prepared to keep them going. With or without wreckers.

Hi Ray,

I was actually talking about pug wreckers. You must understand that the wrecker is a business and they must make money. You cannot make money from a car that is coming off the roads at a huge rate. You have to keep up with the times. There will always be people like you and others (one day me) that will keep wrecking the ones they love and helping others out but the wreckers are in it to make a profit not to help out the odd one or two people. I personally don't like what the arabs are doing either and if they came around looking for 205 parts i would fend them off with a big stick. However I do understand why the pug wreckers sell all their 504's to arabs. If you have 60 front struts for 504 the wrecker is not going to keep more is he? He will sell off the whole car instead. I then do understand you and thats why i have my 205 parts.
