Hi all I’m after a new alternator for my 1970 Pug 504 sedan with 2 litre motor. Any decent brands, ones to avoid, price?

Yep, great change over to a modern internally regulated, higher amperage alternator. The VN alternator fits, but just need a little bit removed from one the mounting tabs. Easily done with a grinder. I haven't touched mine since installing in 9 years ago!

If im not running air cond would the VN one be overkill? What amp rating is the standard Peugeot one?

Who cares? Standard one is 35 amps, everything these days is 80 at least, its only going to supply as much as needed.
