Any recommendations on where to get instrument clusters diagnosed and repaired in Melbourne?

Strike Overline Technology also known as Auto Instrument Repairs in Mulgrave off the list as to say they were unhelpful is an understatement.

Thanks in advance froggers!

Ringwood Speedometer Service.
Did an A1 rebuild of the Fuego cluster.

I used Speedscreen in my.Alexander rd years ago,not sure if they are still operating.they recalibrated a 504speedo after fitting v6manual and 604 diff, another speedo so called specialist told me changing diff and gearbox would not affect Speedo reading and fault was in speedo head, never went back to them….jim

Thanks, will check them out

Thanks - they checked cluster and no fault found. Auto electrician now replacing speed sensor for the third time. Have asked if it could be a ground issue but he says that all signals have been checked to the instrument cluster.
I would drive with an intermittent speed sensor however its affecting engine power when speed is not being detected.

if the sender has been replaced 3 times and the cluster checks out ok, tend to indicate an intermittent fault in the wiring or connections [sockets ] ,would be interesting to check out the wiring diagram to see if the wires from the sender go directly to the cluster or via the ecu etc could it be possible that the loss of power ,and speedo be both related to an earthing or wiring problem ,rather than caused by the inoperative speedo ,a competent auto spark and a wiring diagram ,could be the solution

Thanks, @pugwash, I agree, I suspect it to be a broken wire. I'm hoping the auto electrician will check the wiring more thoroughly given that the ECU and speed sensor have been replaced and the cluster has been checked and cleared of any issues.

I think this is a job best done by owner. Intermittent electrical faults are very time consuming to diagnose. Auto electricians work against time. How much of their time would you pay for?

A multimeter and someone jiggling the wires would probably do the job but you have to go wire by wire through the entire schematic of the branch affected.

Alternatively, you could isolate the wiring loom(s) involved and replace the lot with a known good one.

Unfortunately @schlitzaugen I'm not skilled in that area so may do more harm than good. I'm hoping an experienced auto electrician tracing three or so wires for breaks shouldn't take too long (hopefully)

Just to close this thread thread there was no issue with the instrument cluster at all. First auto electrician I engaged had my car for 9 weeks and could not fix - instead they did more harm than good. I had to retrieve my car form them as they were hopeless.

Took car to Rob's auto elec in Brunswick and he was able to fix issues - can't recommend going to him highly enough. He had to undo some of the bodged work of the previous auto electrician so its hard for me to determine what the original fault was. Main issue corrected in a nutshell wasL
1. Internal speedo gear was missing - this is on the output shaft of the gearbox. He sourced a replacement from Peugoet
2. Speedo sensor wiring- New wiring run from sensor to instrument cluster but not to ECU. ECU needs to know speed as well so signal was rejoined to ECU
3. MAF sensor plug lock mechanism missing - signal was dropping out due to loose connection. New lock added to plug.

Wow, two completely physical issues, not electrical. Mr Rob gets full marks. Bottle his blood immediately.

Well, all's well when it ends well but I still think most people could fix most problems if they tried. Even if you have no knowledge of electrics you can still wiggle an electric cable.
