Hi
im a new peugeot 306 owner. Basically the car is a 306 XT 8v 1996 5spd owned previously by some old couple so the engine is ok. I know this engine is rather P*ss weak but i would like to change that.

I've ordered a k&N panel filter from autobarn (4weeks and still waiting), but the issue of a new exhaust is one of much debate as i have read in these forums.

I would love to hear from owners experiences or reccomendations in regard to aftermarket exhaust systems espicially 306 owners, in particular us unfortunate ones whom couldnt afford a gti6.

another question, Who if anyone specialises with peugeot performance in Melbourne?

Thanks peugeot_

hi, i have a 306 style 16v 1.8 84kws and i did the,air filer and the exhaust system from the cat back it cost me $760 and was the best thing i did :) ,and now the car has more power and sounds better aswell tongue ,i reccomend doing the exhaust, and by doing the air filer that well help you with a few more kws,

could you give me more details of exhaust.
does the fact your car is 16v and mine 8v make any significant difference to this.

What type of air filter did you use on yours, pod or panel?

Having owned both varieties of 306, I would suggest that spending money on the old 8v could be a complete waste of time.

If it were I, the money would be spent on an upgrade to a 16v wink

Thats not to say that you won't see some gains though, but just be careful how you spend the money. You could turn your car into a slower, louder, fart sounding pile of poo.

Unfortunately (again), you might find that your best port of call would be Esscargo.....but be warned. Their service of late is known to be crook.

heres the pic of the exhaust that i did too my car
the air filer that i did was a K&N element

Hi purr-geot,

I'm another 306 owner who's owned a 1.8 8v and now own a 2.0 16v. I tend to agree with macquered that spending money on the 1.8 8v might not be worth the effort.

I have seen other 306 8v cars that had different exhausts etc - didn't seem to make any difference to the performance in my mind - and just made the cars noisy.

One thing to remember with Pug's is it's not all about the engine, it's the cornering. The XT is still a brilliant car in this respect, and you can have heaps of fun with it without spending big $. I think your best bucks for increasing performance would be spent on 15" wheels and tyres which is what jfn306 has just done.

That's my opinion anyway.. probably not what you wanted to hear but hope it helps in some way. 2_cents

Derek.

Yeah i actually got in contact with esscargo and they said they could "easily" get 20kw with a new exhaust+airfilter out of my 8V, it sounded preety good, but i wasnt too convinced.

Bahaahahaaa.

20 fairyland watts.

Bolt on mods on the 8v will yield very few Kw Vs $$. You could get tuned extractors, a cold-air box, better plugs, oil and spend $2000++, but will probably only gain 5-10 Kw at top end of the rev range, and probably gain or loose a little down low.
Personaly id get best brakes you can afford (Xsi rear discs??) and good sticky rubber on 15" wheels, run the car on good oil and Optimax and enjoy the driving.
If you are the main driver, loose some weight, strip it out race car style (leave some comforts, such as front seats) and a lighter car with good brakes/tyres will be quick point to point. Garrantee you will be quicker!**
Get a few ""Aussie Frogs"", i went 1/10th quicker down the quarter when i put my sticker on, thus Aussie frogs power is proven.....lol. Also garranteed!**
cheers Xq

ps** means no garrantee.

20kw they are full of shit they told me that for $1400 for the exhaust i can get 9kws and for $140 the air filter 3kws that     mallet

As the 306 motor is much the same as the 205 gti, the money would be better spent internally and theres plenty of power to be had. You can buy any old crap autobarn pod filter for prolly $50 - $100 and fit it reversing the existing flexible intake hose. I did this. It sounded good, but really did nothing.

Purr-geot,

I used to own a PUG 205 GTi 1.9L 8V. I did not want to spend big on eng. mods. It so happened that the old exhaust was heading out the door. So I changed the exhaust...after several botched tries, I hit on a winning exhaust. The brand is MAGNEX (made in Britain) and improvement, esp. in revibility to redline was noticeable. I did not notice any drop in lower end torque, but the noise is a fair bit louder but sweeter. Oooops, did I mention it has no CAT?? Well, thats the main reason I think it yielded a noticeable perforance improvement....so I cant officially recommend it head_ban but heck, I had no probs with rego in sydney several yrs in a row, so whos cares? (apologies to the environmental conscious who are aware that a CAT is important!!) :p

I might add it was about a $1100 investment though but worth it considering the last two exhausts (failed efforts by custom exhaust guys who do not know the car, MRT and one mob Croydon Exhaust) totalled about $700 anyway....

Hey Purgeoot i already have met u on the team-AZM forums. Like i said dont waste money on the 8V engine is a piece of monkey crap. Ive got it in my 306 XR and its not wirth speding a cent on unless its for sound or rice(yes i have got a backbox abd Pod lol)

That was tounge in cheek about the stickers, but they are proven to pick up chicks!!!...
as for the 1/4 pass it was at a race meet with a new style G-tech so make of that what you will.
With low Psi race tyres out front, bigger o/a diameter 17"'s out back, less than 1/4 fuel and nothing inside, not even the spare. i did two 14.9's and several 15's flat total of about 8 passes. but i had wheel spin problems from 2nd to 3rd and i never realy got the race tyres to temp.... but those thathave seen my car know its not exatly stock either. i think pig205 did a et of 15.1 not long ago???
cheers Xq

ps, watch this space for YELO20's wicked 205 man!!! tizgonaflydondakuretarman!!

haha yeah i figured that much.lol

But sweet 14.9 sounds very good. I know you have sum nice mods too. I dont know how accurate G-techs are but if you timed yourself down a main straight at a track its a good indication of your cars performance :)

I cant wait to drop the GTi6 Running gear in my XR and seeing what it will run. ill take it to Calder Park Drag strip and get a timeslip :)

Do you have any idea what a stock GTi6 will run?

PS- Sorry to hijack your thread dude frown

a stock Gti-6 will probably do low-mid 15's depending alot on the 60' time and reacion and wheel slip.
the 14.9 i did was with my Azenis semi rubber, after a quick burn-out.
good luck.
Xq

Been there done that wink
