Hi guys,
I hope everyone is keeping safe and occupied with their projects during these times. Great news that there are 0 reported infections in both NSW and VIC! French car meets will be back on the move soon I hope 🌬
Just wanted some opinions. I have had the original manifold going into a 2 1/2 Inch pipe, recently fabricated to complete my resto. Been driving around with that setup for around 8 months now. A few weeks ago, I was offered some after market headers for my car, which I agreed. Took them to the place where I had the original setup fabricated, and they told me 'truthfully', that it wasn't going to make any noticeable difference. They seemed very genuine when explaining to me, and even said 'we should be telling you to install them, more business for us'. I then decided to re- think the install.
I approached another exhaust place down my way, North Shore Performance Exhausts (Hornsby). Blokes name was Garry. A real wizard in the trade. He explained to me, what I initially thought, that each port would have its own pipe with the headers, meaning, more efficient flowing, less back pressure etc. He pointed at the centre point of the original manifold, where the "heat proof" exhaust paint I had sprayed on not too long ago, had started to peel. He explained that all 4 ports were fighting to exit through that one point, causing pressure to build and an enormous amount of heat to produce around that one bottleneck.
After that I decided to install the headers. $300 all up. After the first test drive I could feel some more power and torque in 3rd + overdrive. Although this could be a bit of a placebo affect mixed with volume enhancer, haha. Also, seems to start easier and somewhat more responsive. Not too sure about power/torque without a dyno, which is why I am here gathering some opinions ..... So please help assure me, worth it or money better spent elsewhere?
