Does anybody know any bad stories about gapless rings? I've heard some good stories, but am interested to know if they have any possible bad side effects (e.g. like ring flutter under 7000rpm).

G'day Dave,
I ran gapless rings in a good BMW 2002 a few years ago and had minimal blowby at 8000 rpm. on the dyno, and this proved true on the track with very little oil in the catch tank.
Only the second ring is " gapless", that is it has a thin ring inset into the main ring. The engine is still being run in competition with no problems. They perform very well on leakdown tests, but in my experience make only a negligible horsepower increase, if any, but does give longevity of competition engines.
Alan.
