Hello eveyone on the boards, i have recently aqquired a 1983 fuego in Perth Western Australia and i would like to know if there is a way to fix a high pitched whirring noise which goes through all gears and is really annoying, apart from this sound the mechanics are doing alright in the car and i love it. Its getting resprayed tupac red, reappulstering the two front bucket seats and getting a specifically designed body kit!! :) well see how long that takes... neway please help me out if you can!

I know more about these things then I ever wanted to, and I'm in Perth at the mo. Give me a bell (0417 511433) and drop round and I should be able to tell you exactly which of the many weird noises Fuegos make this is, and tell you what is involved in converting it to power steering which these things really need.

Power steering? Pshaw! What a bunch of wimps wink

Try driving in peak hour traffic, in a R17TS on a 40 Degree day (no airco) with original steel wheels - 185 profile tyres and standard (heavy!) clutch.

That'll sort anyone out :D

I can recommend Haakon, he has a wealth of knowledge
and experience with the Fuego, and also has the nouse
tp search out equipment that will fit where replacements are not available.

The whining noise sounds a bit like transmission noise, and some gearboxes seem worse than others.
I usually put in a tube of specialist gear oil
additive when I have got around to changing oil
in the transmission and this seems to eliminate
most the annoying high pitched whine.

Make sure you use a good quality square box style
spanner to remove the taper plugs as they easily
round off when an adjustable spanner is applied, and they are XYZ's to remove after damage.

Will be interested to hear Haakon's report on your
Fuego. In any case there are a number of Fuego owners that will help out with information through
this board as you enjoy your car. :)

Ken.
