Ford Focus!

I think we've all had a lot of fun on this site & it would be a pity to see the whole thing destroyed through some of this stupid out of character rot based on cars that shouldn't have been discussed in the first place. Do you get my point now? 'coz I reckon you missed it badly the first time. I don't have your hang-ups as regards age & models; I just can't see the point of the non French car discussions.

I think French car talk is alive and well here and not about to get taken over by discussions about v8 commodores and GTRs just yet, in fact I've noticed somewhat of an influx of new 307 owners logging in lately.....

Without rocking the boat here, the idea with "general chit chat" was to have a place to be able to discuss anything as long as it is above board.

I have no idea what this Ford Focus is & personally couldn't care less about it so I have chosen not to read this thread until today (bit board).

The other particullar forums are no go's for non French as far as I'm concerned unless as a reference but it is ultimately really up to the moderator of that forum what goes, although there are no real rules in place. The way it is now has been OK for the last 28 months.

This particular forum is the most difficult to moderate, especially if we introduce an anti-non-French ruling. Mr GreenBlood could face some adverse reactions from users.

New forums are easy to create if we want to sub divide this one up....

If there were so many silly posts per day that you'd be using up the entire page to get to a 'normal' topic, then I'd understand, but it seems reasonable at the moment.

That's exactly what I am talking about!!!!! It covers all FRENCH cars; not pom cars, not Yank, Not Swedish, Not German, not Korean,- F R E N C H.
A bit of discussion on other breeds occasionally we can all cop, but lately about the only thing NOT being discussed is same FRENCH cars.
If my memory serves me correctly, 306 & 307s are both French aren't they??
This is what has made aussiefrogs as successful as it has been, discussing French cars, but longwinded threads discussing anything but the reason for this boards existence is a one way trip to a disaster. Anyone can read about the more common breeds in a variety of boards and newsgroups so why come to aussiefrogs?
There's an old saying "If you don't like the message, don't shoot the pidgeon." I'm not alone in my thoughts on this issue. It's just that I'm the only one prepared to stand up & say something about it.
If we wanted to know the pros & cons about owning some other breed of car, I'm sure there's plenty of boards who could give the information required. If you want to see what I mean, go to a Holden Commodore boy racers site & ask for advice on hotting up your Pug. Bet pounds to peanuts the main suggestion would involve a gallon of petrol & a box of matches, yet so far we've tolerated this crap here. As you are a Pug enthusiast Dave, I'm somewhat bemused by your attitude & response.

I really thought you were being good humoured about this until that last post. Maybe I misjudged your depth of feeling about this issue. Maybe there shouldn't be a general discussion section?

The fact that Aussiefrogs members have been willing to discuss the pros and cons of other vehicles in the general discussion section (in a good humoured way) has been a strength rather than a weakness. Learning about and discussing other makes of vehicle has only enhanced my respect for certain models of Peugeot, Renault and Citroen, not detracted from it!

Some days, like you, I only feeling like discussing/reading about French cars. On those days I don't usually enter the general discussion section. It's quite simple really. It's your choice.

The reason I brought it to attention was that I did a little bean counting.
In 5 topics we had approx 140 posts; of them there were around 125 non French car related. That begs the question - What are we doing here?
As gibgib says, he chose not to bother reading them; I don't blame him although at times in the past something like this has generated into something more interesting. Lately this hasn't happened & as I am in a rural area as possibly quite a few more here are with no access to broadband or any other mod cons as far as speed goes, to say it's bloody annoying to sit & wait while a post loads up only to find it full of crap that should really be on another board is an understatement. As i said, most of us are on here to enjoy talking about French cars and possibly sorting problems, doing comparisons with other cars regardless of brands and generally socialising. But to be continually promoting every other type & brand of car is ludicrous.
The Pom with the obviously small appendage who is compensating with the hairdressers Purple Pug and a nasty turn of phrase is good for a laugh; do hope he keeps up his medication, but with all that, it is still a Froggy fan so hey, let him have a run. I don't think anyone has any problem with the odd speil about any other car but my point was & is that at the end of the day we are still a French car board. Keep prattling on about all this other garbage as the predominant subjects and how much money do you all want to put on the fact that we'll end up with a bunch of pimply faced boy racers with caps arseabout driving white dunnydores coming on board and causing caos; it nearly happened a couple of weeks ago as greenblood can attest.
NOW - has the penny dropped??????

Please, please, read the end of my last post - carefully, have a cuppa and an early night, think about it, go to sleep, wake up in the morning, read it again and then perhaps you'll understand what I'm trying to tell you. With a bit of luck, greenblooded Chris will remember what happened a couple of weeks ago & confirm that I am not talking from whence I sit. You guys are walking in a mine field; I will make no further comment on the matter, I just hope I don't have to be the one to say "I told you so."
These comments have been made with the best of intentions based on experience. It looks as though you're going to have to learn the hard way though, if you don't soon wake up to what you're encouraging. black_ey black_ey clown

I've argued against that point of view before, witness my Mini Cooper post, but I sort of agree with you now after having it spelled out. I wouldn't want to be partly responsible for spoiling a forum where I'm a latecomer.

Dave, apologies - that 80's/90's comment didn't include the Mondeo, which is OK dynamically if a bit Mundane-o. Last comment.

gibgib - you are absolutely right, 'GENERAL CHIT CHAT' the topic implies that the forum is intended for discussion in all its guises.

as for commodore owners coming in
1) do you have to be a member to post? the answer is yes.
2) do the moderators have the ability to ban people? yes.
3) point made.

and as for the waiting for pages to load, thats a bunch of pigs ass, its all text, and if you cant wait 10 seconds for a page to load maybe someone needs a bit of the ol' ritalin. i have dialup internet too.

just let it be, i think that most of the members are open minded enough to appreciate what are the underappreciated cars in australia, and doesnt anyone else find it fun to have a bit of spirited discussion and constructively argue about the pros and cons of other cars, allowing people to maybe make their own decisions?????? just think about it....
