DS Airconditioning

Is the receiver drier the cylindrical thingy with the little glass viewing window? If it is, that's on the passenger side sort of, kind of near the fuse box. Here's my dash.

That has to be one of my favorite D interior pics, just a great shot, love it :wink2:

Yep, receiver dryer is the cylindrical thingy, seems odd that it's over on the passenger side?

My understanding is that for those of us lucky enough to drive Ds with bvh selectors, there is simply no room there for the compressor and that we should wait around a bit longer for battery powered a/c to come on line (apparently this technology is used in Prius')?

There is a BVH getting around Sydney with working air conditioning. I don't think the owner visits AF.

Rubbish. There is a DS23 EFI Hydraulic here in Sydney with great working A/C.

There is also a DS21 Carby Hydraulic I saw many years ago in Melbourne with A/C with the compressor mounted up high. My pic of it here http://www.flickr.com/photos/frontdrive34/2641637326/in/photostream/

Also see the cabin unit mounted in the centre. Seemed a nice location. Pic here http://www.flickr.com/photos/frontdrive34/2641637854

Yep the technology is available now.

The Prius compressor runs off 100v (the drive system voltage). Thus current is manageable.

12 volt hermetic compressors are available too. 12 volts at around 75 amps for a small unit and up to 150 amps for a bigger unit.

So think about about an alternator and drive belt upgrade. If you use a 12 volt compressor.

Then it become a moot point as to what is easier (and more affordable) a huge alternator and with the conversion inefficiencies or a tried and proven engine driven compressor.

I know which way I would go!

The matter has been discussed here : http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87424&highlight=lotus

What about my dash?

With your new gauges you can keep cool inside while watching the engine get to explode temp!

All I need now is a cabin temperature gauge!

That's an AutoClima evaporator. Fantastic concept, but often not excecuted very well. The evaporators
generally weren't bad, provided the motors don't seize. The under bonnet was generally not as good.

That was made in the day aftermarket air. An era which has passed. Cool Temp/ Cooldrive ceased business. They were the largest manufacturer/importer in Australia.

My friends 404 has a similar AutoClima evaporator in it, I ended up reworking the underbonnet stuff to make it work properly.

mounting the compressor there really makes working on the engine even harder than ever, wonder which belts drive it?
Great inside unit one of the best I've seen, wonder if it's possible to find out where this unit came from.
The original Citroen one is great but so far impossible to find, but I am still trying,
here is a picture of it with "eye ball" outlets on the left and right air vents.

I saw that factory unit in a car here in Australia once about 25 years ago. It was in a D Super 5. Looked neat and the golf ball vents were a nice part.

Theres a car in Penrith being fitted with all NOS eyeball A/C equipment at the moment. I think its a DS21.

I suspect the owner is an aussiefrog member too... :wink2:

Dimensions of "behind the bumper" condensers

Hi Everyone,

What are the dimensions of the "behind the bumper" Citroën DS AC condensers?

Also are there any modern universal condensers that can be used in a similar fashion? I have been scouring the web but have not come across anything similar.

I don't know the dimensions of the units originally fitted, someone will reply with that info, but for a modern condenser these really look like a great substitute.

http://speedyairspares.com.au/produ..._applications_EXCELLENT_CONDENSER-35-163.html

Width 355mm
Height 310mm
Thickness 150mm (including fan)

My condenser is the odd one out being fitted in front of the radiator, which must restrict airflow? I've had no problems but if I were starting from scratch I'd seriously look at the above link. Comes down to will they fit in the small space available??

Cheers
