I ordered in some new boots for the 407 (in the right size this time). Interestingly what looks like plastic ( ?? ) boots has turned up "Borg and Beck" brand. It will be interesting to see how they last.

How long of plastic boots been around for? Am I really so out of touch to expect rubber If they are good, maybe I'll order in some boots for the CX

Not uncommon. Look up TPE boots.

I had the same thing on a 406, I thought WTF but I found the old ones were the same, so the answer to your question 20 years or 300k
