Bought a brand new Captur in February 2022. Makes a terrible grinding noise at start up in the morning. Lasts for about 15 sec and then quiet. Drives great otherwise. Renault says it is normal (???). Anyone else experience similar issue?

Doesn't sound like what you would call "normal" the way you describe it.🙉
We test drove one of the older 1.2L Capturs, stone cold start off the showroom floor, and it didn't make any odd noises.🤷‍♂️
Can you post a sound byte of the noise?

No grinding noises are "normal"...especially "terrible" ones...."Renault" says it's normal....is that your dealer or Renault Australia (or whatever they're called)? What you could do is go to another dealership and test drive one to compare on start up...

Eeeek!
I'd be doing as nauli said and compare another one with the same engine/trans combo at cold start.
Then you'll know if it's "normal" or not.
Doesn't sound like a noise I'd like to hear in a 50 year old car let alone a brand new one.🤷‍♂️

I have a 900cc turbo petrol Clio which I assume is rather similar to your car , and it sound normal at start-up.
However, it doesn't sound anything like you describe.

Well I have a 2015 Captur that gets a cold start every time we use it. It does not make that noise or any other that is not normal. A second opinion I think. Mine is the 1.2 4cyl turbo. What motor is yours ?
I would get that opinion in writing from the dealer, and a second opinion from some other professional mechanic or down here a report from the NRMA technical department. Possibly contact Renault service direct.
Jaahn

If your car has it? It's not the stop/start playing up?
IE: starter either not disengaging or trying to engage while it's already running?🤷‍♂️

Check oil level ASAP
Any particles in oil as well
Sounds like lack of oil pressure in tensioner
Dealer job definitely

Thanks will get second opinion. 1.3L T petrol engine. I complained to Metro Renault in Brisbane. They checked it out and stated that there is nothing wrong. Even had it overnight to check a cold start. Showed them the video and they persist "all is normal". Now I know this is not common, I will take it to a specialist. Starting to have serious doubts about buying a Renault.

Renaults are good, Renault dealers mostly can’t find their arse with both hands. This is not a problem confined to the Renault brand btw…

Love Renaults, don't give up. I have had them from R8 1100, R12, R15, R17, R25.
The Yellow early 2.0l Clios were the best ever

Can you be there at the dealership for first cold start if vehicle left overnight.you would need to make sure it hasn’t been started previously by checking underbonnet for any warmth near exhaust manifold/engine area.and film start up again, that would have their service advisor stumbling for excuses if same noise is heard as in your video.I would try that as it would make them actually hear the noise with no way of justifying it as normal….jim

If you're in that area, drop in at Peugeotech and ask for their opinion.

Or at least have the bonnet open and see if you can hear where the noise is coming from.
