Can slight rim out-of-round be balanced out?

I went over a bomb crater (a bad bad pot hole) :( , lost the hub cap (got crushed...) and the rim has a slight flat spot, so it is out of round, if you know what I mean. cry

My question is:
1. How easy is the wheel alignment likely to be affected?
2. Can the rim be re-balanced and continue to be used?

It's a steel rim, so getting a new rim is probably cheaper then getting it rounded. Also I can always use the spare rim, and use the damaged rim as the spare, but is it going to be good enough for long distance travel if I had to use it?

Thanks for your help.

It's about on par of asking if a square wheel has corners on it. mallet

You will never balance a buckle out of a rim, simple as that. It will have to be replaced.
Used as a spare I suppose it shouldn't create too many problems & will probably remind you to get the puncture fixed much better than would be the case if a good rim was on, so as they say, every cloud has a silver lining. :D

Alan S cheers!

Just think of it as having all the bad things that a space saver spare has, but none of the good... :D
Haha..I like that...

if it is a steel rim you might be able to take the buckle out of the rim. Alloy rims can be fixed as well but you have to visit the specialist mag wheel repairer.
According to the wheel alignement places driving over a speed hump can affect your alignement (depending on speed, angle of attack and damping force ie were you using brakes at a time), let alone a pothole.

With regards to the pothole. Take some pictures of it, the pictures of the rim, crushed hubcap, and "ask" Roads and Traffic Dept, and/or , local council to reimburse you for your troubles.

I reckon speed humps must have a caused a hidden but huge cost to the community. All the extra wear and tear to the car.
I think we should use those curve thing which force you to slow down to drive through it instead.

I went back a few days later (it was 40min away from home) to take a photo, the pothole was patched already...
