I'm cracking up reading about French Car addictions, I've been wondering why I can't bring myself to offload mine. But I feel much better now becasue at least I only have one!

My local french mechanic is coming up short on finding a repalcement Brake Pressure Limiting Valve for my 82 Fuego 136A. Very tight w/ only 50k miles. Evidently it sat too long with the brake fluid soaking up all the liquid sunshine we have here and it rusted from the inside out. Driving with only a parking brake is getting old, especially on the slippery days.

I'm searching the world to find one. Anyone you can steer me to down there?

Thanks in advance for any leads.

Good luck staying alive with that breakless driving style, and better luck finding a spare part.I'll be looking into having mine re-built in the next few month.I'll keep you posted if this is an option.

Previous posting

Check out this previous posting for the address of a French auto parts supplier -

I tried the link to their website but could not get a reply from them. Albert a US Fuego owner and Froggy Forum member and then living in France found that place that apparently has some but I haven't been able to make contact since.

You might have more luck!

Fuego parts

I have used these guys before. There is not much they do not handle/can't get.

They are in Spain. I have bought stuff there before, sometimes its cheap - othertimes it's expensive.

Just wondering if anyone has had to have their rear Fuego Brake Pressure Limiting Valve replaced/repaired recently. Mine has just sprung a leak and leaving puddles on the driveway. I've had a look at the part numbers still for sale for Fuegos and it looks quite different to the one on my car (see below). Any advice/wisdom would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Pull the inside of it out and fill the top part of the chamber with epoxy so no air bubbles can form there. This would be safer than driving with no brakes other than the hand brake. No it is probably not legal where you live to do this. so if you do this you do so at your own risk. It usually works depending on the weight you have in the vehicle increasing the pressure to the rear wheels. The reason it is there is to stop the rear locking up before the front and thus causing a sideways skid. There may be other cars that have this feature and the device can be fitted from them. The inside may have a rubber seal or O ring that can be replaced. I have repaired these off other Renaults. Remember it is probably not legal where you live to do this. so if you do this you do so at your own risk.

The brake system can not be bled if the car is on the hoist or jack with the wheels hanging down. The weight of the car must be on its wheels to bleed the system. If the pressure valve is faulty because the mechanic can not bleed the rear wheels, check he has the weight of the car on the wheels.

There are some advertised on Ebay in UK and I dare say in France. That would be the best option.

There should be some old posts re how to repair, but I could never replicate how it was carried out, I also did a lot of research on different models that were available in France and could be adapted to work on our series sold in Australia, Unfortunately that was so long ago that I have forgotten most of the details and lost the paper that had all the model numbers etc. Hopefully another Fuego owner might have more detail of be able to point you to the discussions we had at the time.

I always wanted to source these as brand new spares, but could never get a deal completed.

It’s not the looks that matter, but the function.
the fuego takes a diagonaly opposed dual brake system and plumbs them through a single pressure regulating device.
So you’ll want to see 4 threaded whatsies…2 in, 2 out. The image valve has a single inlet, and dual outlet.

Be careful. When the proportioning valve fails, it can do so catastrophically, wiping out the entire hydraulic system.

as far as substitute parts go, I found a mirror reversed but otherwise identical nos part, and was able to switch around the lever and shaft. Can’t remember what it was from, but it was obviously a similar vintage dual brake system Renault.

Thanks for that but unfortunately it looks pretty different to the one on there. All the ones for sale in Europe etc. look like that and I've tried looking at Renault 18s, 20s and 25s to see if there's anything that looks like it to not avail. :(

Yes the Ebay one has only 3 ports, the car pictured has 4 like the Australian Fuegos.

Hey fellas, on the piston shaft you have oring or in some version X type seal/oring , that oring should be easy find, the piston cup/seal needs to be org spec, let say from other proportioning valve, 2 or 3 way Bendix type. There are plenty in Romania for R12/Dacia 1300, cost about 15 bux. It's under (repartition Frana )in Romanian, I was able to fix few using internal parts. The fuego GTA is fitted with single line to the back, just like GTS type.

Just an update - thought I could get one from Niparts given the model number and photo was spot on but that was a scam just in case anyone else sees this and can avoid doing their dough: https://www.niparts.com/OEM/62CBDA/RENAULT/7700674642.html

Also a mob in Germany (Handler Parts) claimed they had it but do not now they've checked their stock. Might have to get some specialised local expertise if someone can recommend any experts in brake part reconditioning in Melbourne given the puddle of brake fluid that appears below it now.

Don't forget Power Brakes in Adelaide. They've quite the reputation and some of us have used them for decades.
