Check this out, going to Auction in Brisbane tommorrow...Advertised as a "405" but check out the engine sitting on the ground eek! got 8 more valves than the normal 405 in my book. Then take a look at the rear...spoiler
It's a stat write off so it'll go pretty cheap. Last one we bought looked untouched apart from underbonnet damage & cost $900. This one I reckon will pull somewhere from $500 - $1500 but closer to the lower figure...if I were there once it hit a grand I'd start walking for the exit gate. deal

mm..so tempting...do you think the engine would be ok after that? i wonder if there is much left of the intake and computer?

What has that hit?

I would have reservations about the donk being OK.

The rest of the car could be dumped!

I'm a bit far away to tell, but to me it looks as though it's T boned something that was going a fair clap. Looking at the bit sitting on the deck, it appears that the intake is still mostly if not all intact. The ECU should be under the seat but I'd reckon it's been a jaws of life extraction job. That often makes them look far worse on a pic than in the flesh but it would be a worry if it's been left open to the recent rains and ended up with a foot of water floating around in it. Still would be possibly a real good starter for heaps of cheap spares particularly head & block. If I were closer I'd poke my nose in with a "roll" in my pocket, just in case...could be a real bargain if it's not "photogenic."

If this was in Sydney and in 4 weeks time I'd definately consider it. :(

Can't help myself. Must go down and see how much it brings. wink

Buy it dude...i bought a stat writeoff GTi6 for alot less than just a GTi6 motor would cost.

Good luck with the conversion if u get it :)

Cal,

FWIW,

Spend $5 & get a bidders number just in case it looks like going for the price of the bootlid.
I was there one day when a Hyundies Excell went for $25 that was a stat write off. :D
Pretend you can't speak English real well & you might get approached by some of the ones who look like bidding on it. (I'm serious) Bona fide European type wreckers who go there usually back off if they see a private buyer showing too much interest so it could be easy pickings. deal

Here's the other half of the deal; does this look & sound familiar??
This was supposedly sold last time; methinks this crew must salt as many away as they sell. Amazing how often you see cars doing a "boomerang" and turning up again for another Auction.
I'm positive someone reckoned this car was sold a few weeks ago...maybe the cash didn't arrive??  deal

Can't remember now if it was these fellas or Pickles that had this last time

Alan S cheers!

Couldn't get there because of work. Where the hell was I going to strip it anyway. I reckon $200 would have stopped it.

How about an S16 wreck then - damage doesnt look too bad from the photo and I'd say at least the interior and skirts would be good if anyone has an XR they want to convert - you may even get lucky with the engine - I wouldn't mind the twin cam myself

Cal,

Could be worth a phone call to ask if it sold and if so what it went for.
If it didn't sell, sometimes they can pop up again in the near future.
The reason for asking the price is so that you get an idea of values for future reference...I doubt $200 would buy it though unless it was really badly trashed mechanically.
