Well it is getting hot and in the past 6 months or so it appears the 505's aircon has leaked all its gas out. The previous owners had it regassed about 3 years ago, but I can't find any stickers that indicate it was converted to the new stuff.

Anyone recommend places around Melbourne which can be trusted with a pug? I know Pug505Exec on this board had a really bad experience with a generic aircon place.

The aircon in my 504 needs regassing too... while we're on the topic, anything special to consider for these old frogs?

I just remembered that Jason had his 505 regased at Bob Watson a few months ago and he was very impressed. I have no idea how much it cost. As Bob Watson are a Peugeot specialist I guess it is a fairly safe bet. They have a pink 505 GTi loan car :D .

Check the valves for putting gas in - if they have bright blue and red caps respectivly, its on R134A - if not its still on R12 and will need a conversion. Get the AC bloke to see if it had a dye put in gas at its last regas - with a fluro light they have it will show up where it leaked. Otherwise, you have to pay for a regas and dye, and when it leaks out again, you will know where its leaking
Usually it goes from o rings or the compressor gaskets or a leaky condensor. Have fun, and get ready to fork out a few dollars frown

Is that all?? I think I'll be heading down there fairly soon to get mine done. cheers!

I remember a few years ago getting some quotes to get our XF Falcon's A/C regassed. It too still ran on R12 and most of the places I called said it would have to be converted. The quotes I received were all around $300+. eek!

Needless to say, I kept searching around and eventually found a place that still had some of the old R12 gas, and paid about $120 to get the re-gas done.

It was so friggin cold too! Nothing like new a/c.

If yours hasn't worked in a while Richard you might need to get everything checked out. I know Jason had to get a compressor for his (I think he got one out of Gus' GR - that's right we drove to Canberra to get an a/c compressor... ).

Tinted windows are also worth considering. Expect to pay around $180 though.

Well I've booked my car in for Thursday.

They will top it up and put some die in it. Then I have to come back within 2 months so they can find out where it is leaking from. They think if it is a straight forward top up it should just cost around $129. I'll let you all know how it goes.

So Nick,

How did it go?
Does it feel lke an Artic breeze?
Did they charge any more for the job?

My unit is starting to get a bit fatigued. :(

Peter.

Cost $121. Extremely cold!

That price included having a 505 Gti as a loan car for the day :D (think it was free).

They said there are leaks in mine, so they put die in the system and told me to come back when it feels like it is starting to loose its strength. Then they work out where the leaks are. Once they are fixed, they refill to compensate for any gas lost in the leaks for free.

I really think that's a great price, and sounds like you're getting great service there too. dance

What happens if all of the gas escapes, will the recharge still be free? You're right, I think doing mine will cost a fair bit more than $120. I'm sure my A/C hasn't worked in years as the compressor is stuffed, all my seals must be dried out and the condensor probably has a leak. $$$$$

Nick,

Who regassed your A/C? Since you had a 505 for a loan car, I guess it must be a Peugeot mechanic.

John

Bob Watson. They are located at 343 Mont Albert Rd, Mont Albert. 9890 1316. They also have a place in Hawthorn East according to the letter head on the receipt.

<a href="http://www.bobwatson.com.au" target="_blank">www.bobwatson.com.au</a>

When I got there, they were servicing a recent BMW 5 series and an OLD volvo wagon :D .

I believe they specialise in BMW, Peugeot and Volvo. Always a few 505's outside.

The one in Hawthorn East is a minute from Regans - it's in the lane by the train station.

A bit OT but my air con in my S16 seems a little weak. It is kinda cool, but not cold. Does it need regassing? Or is it because, someone said this to me once, that its a euro car so the air con isn't as good as normal?
