Hey guys

Just trying to get some ideas for a car.
Has to be one that :-
I can use in Club events / is kind on the eye / has to be reno (well naturally fellas)
/ be quick / preferebly rear wheel drive

I'm thinking R8 with a worked 807 engine in the back ?

How much work is involved to do this ? Do I need a R16 block for a R8 or can I use a R17 one ?
I realise I'm gonna need quite a bit of body strenghthing, for it all to be good.

Does Firewall need to be cut ?

Who's done it ?

Putting a 16TS engine in an R8 is a fairly straightforward operation. Either a 16 or 17 block is OK. You utilise the standard R8 engine mounts with a modified cradle and an adaptor plate that goes between the block and the timing cover. (Just like the Alpine A110 1600S).
At one time Collier's sold a kit for this purpose.
You need to move the fuel tank and the radiator to the front.
If you are fitting twin side draught carbies you may need to panel beat the inner guards to suit.
The clutch operation lever in the bellhousing (16TS type) will need to be modified to pull in the correct orientation. A modified top gearbox mount bracket is used to mount the outer cable and is braced back to the engine.(Again as per the A110)
There was an excellent article in Motor Manual in the late 70's entitled "Frogmoteur Extrordinaire" which detailed such a conversion in the UK.

See also Katriina's Tech Pages for info.

There has been hundreds of this conversion done, the early '70's saw lots for the hillclimb sprint and rallycross competitions the 16TS motor in my R10 worked really well with 2 down draught webers from the TS motors without mods to bodywork, the manufacture of a manifold was fairly straight forward. I used the Alpine engine mount described in the Tech tips on Katriinas site, generally the only added strength was supplied by fitting either a 4 point roll cage ( for road use ) or a 6 point (for track use only) the 6 point i made for my R10 eliminates almost all body/chassis flex

The original installation only had the fuel tank relocated to the front the R16TS radiator was installed in the original R10 mountings & used the R16 thermo fan, although the R8 being shorter this arrangement probably wouldn't fit.The alternator position needs to changed to somewhere other tan above the motor, i placed mine above the starter motor
The body mods' only came about to facilitate the fitting of the Super-charger/Holley carby combination.
The conversion to R12/R18 front end/5 spd gearbox combo in the rear of the R10 is proceeding well.
Pic's of the blower set up are on the
blown renault web site

Thanks for the info guys.

Well with The French Car Day comming up this weekend, I'm gonna ask around. I'm keen on either a R15 or R8. I'm going to stick with the 807 however.

Purchased a set of 40mm DCOE Webers today, 2nd hand at a pretty good price.
So its full steam ahead.
