508 sales expected to be modest

No diesel watch it flop would hazard a guess that less than 20% of series one 508s had the ep6s in them. What a shame.

The place is littered with Audi and VW diesels, and Inchcape has chosen not to take them on. Weird.

I've driven the new 308 with the latest diesel and it's impressive. Perhaps nobody looked at the comparative sales proportions of petrol and diesel C5s.l

I have had a range of Peugoet diesels since 1993. They have been incredibly reliable and esay to drive. I currently have a 2012 508 diesel and cannot understand the logic of not having a diesel option. I agree with the comments above about the previous sales of 508, petrol was way below diesel option.

Same here 306 to c5 c7 but needing a high roof due to neck problems and not wanting to spend 40k on a new 3008 needed to buy a fake one.
I would never get an EP6

Perceptions and reality might be a different thing...

Carsales lists 133 X 508's for sale at the moment...

Diesel - 39
Petrol - 94

Maybe all the diesel buyers are hanging onto their cars and all the petrol buyers are selling......to buy a new petrol 508 !!!

Anyone got the vfacts figures for the last 7 years ?

Cheers

Justin

In Europe diesel is dead due to city driving emissions penalties but our local importers will be importing until they are phased out - and that won’t be for much longer.

Manufacturers produce the products in demand in their export markets. I was able to buy a 2019 German tractor that happily did not meet EU emission standards and has no particle filter. If PSA wish to sell to more than the EU they will continue to manufacture diesel engines.

Most of the petrol cars are new models I don’t see your point ,note the fact that I worked on these for the last 8 years and I can tell you my guess would be pretty close. Ep6 engines are garbage

We are talking about new models aren't we ?

What are the issues with the EP6 engine ? I'm aware that some very old ones had issues with timing chains, but what are the other known issues ?

Cheers

No as I said above about series one 508s and how many diesels compared to ep6s

And yes wouldn’t touch one with a 10 foot pole

And dealing with ep6s over the last 12 odd years you get
Timing issues
Cooling issues leaks from everywhere
Oil use
Turbos

Along with the C5 Aircross the new 508, and their e-THP garbage engines, looks like the last hurrah for PSA locally .

Pity if so
I’m currently in Europe and have seen a good few new 508s around (no wagons, though); they’re a good looking car and the interior seems top notch

Love the new 508 but since there is no diesel it will be no sale for me. The 407 hdi will have to last longer which I am certain it will.
My next car will probably not be a Peugeot.

They're not worried about volumes, but want to rebuild the brand? You can't rebuild the brand with no income and if no one sees any.

How do you rebuild a brand? You offer products that consumers like, with features that match and hopefully improve on those of competing makes, at a price no higher than others.
You drop the "prestige car" nonsense of marketing to the socially insecure and social climbers.
You provide excellent service at no higher cost than your competitors through an extensive and convenient network of dealers.
And if there is a problem with a car under warranty you make sure you own the problem not the owner.
By providing quality products consumers like to drive and good quality moderately priced service sales and resale values will begin to grow again.

Ever since Carlos Tavares got there, Peugeot has stopped chasing volume and now has better margins than the German premium brands can dream of. He's doing something right.

Russell is correct - a good dealer network and competitive pricing is a must.
