Hello fellow Froggers I am rather new to this forum but wanted to share my recent experience with my 508 Peugeot.
I own a 2013 508 Estate 2.0HDI with 140,000 Km's on clock.
Doing the morning drop off temp gauge goes wildly off the clock.
Jumps out , no leaks, engine still rather cold, could hold my hand on the block and radiator.
Drove the 5Km or so home and plugged in my OBD II reader. It its only a basic reader, cannot read codes, but reported the coolant temperature as normal.
From a cold start the temp gauge would work normally until about 50 or 60 degrees and then suddenly the temp gauge would swing hard into the red. The Stop engine light comes on, and the orange engine overheat warning symbol flashes with alarms.
The thermo fan was not working and the air con was not kicking in.
Once the car was warm the temp gauge would go straight to the red on start up.
I suspected the coolant temp sender switch which I replaced. It did not fix the problem.
A local mechanic specialising in European cars could not read the engine ECU, he said it was all scrambled and doing weird things, he suspected maybe a capacitor in the ECU blown.
Off to the dealer to ease the burden on my wallet. Active codes found were P0693 and P0691. Fan relay controller and thermo fan needed to be replaced, cleared the logged faults. 2 Weeks now all good. Hopefully the mean time between failures is lengthy this time.
Happy and safe motoring.
