Hi Folks,
Does anyone know how many manual 406 Coupes were sold after 2000 in Australia?
Redbook lists them as being available until 2003, but you don’t often hear of them.
TIA, Chris.

The manual version of the Coupé was announced as being sold locally from April 1999.

I don't think there is any available data on the breakdown of manual vs auto Coupés in Australia, however anecdotally I'd imagine the manual ones are held onto, as the auto doesn't enjoy the best reputation, despite it not being an AL4.

Total 406 Coupé sales in Australia
1997 1
1998 138
1999 106
2000 59
2001 57
2002 38
2003 51
2004 10
Total: 460

I have a lovely 2003 manual, originally sold new in Queensland
The paperwork confirms sale price of just over $70k. No wonder coupes in Australia are a little thin on the ground.😳

I can confirm the 406 Coupe has a ZF4HP20 and not the AL4, so it's less prone to issues with solenoids. Although sealed for life, I recommend regular fluid changes which, in my ownership experience, have seen smooth sailing.

Here comes the hate but the 98 to 2000 zf box was hateful not as easy to just throw so valves in it like a al4 . When the pump housing craps itself and it’s a major rebuild. Even though the cost of a dual mass flywheel on a v6 has written many cars off.

I am pretty sure mine is one of the 10 registered in 04 (another Qld car). Its an auto has had the ATF analysed by ALS in Sydney then completely flushed and then modified by Salman so it will run cooler and not crap out the clutches. It also has an external filter fitted. Car is in near mint condition (had a few damaged and time worn bits when I bought it which have all been replaced including the last boot badge and pair of genuine keys in Christendom). Just waiting on the warm weather for a small crack in the front bumper to be done and then resprayed. Drives as smooth as silk.

I have a lovely 2001 manual one that is only 150 000 km that is fully optioned with sunroof, folding mirrors, etc. in Brisbane. It is in perfect fully serviced condition with all of its original sale docs etc.

That requires a photo Kat. :)

Hi Glenn
I bought it in about 2011. I shipped it up to Brisbane from Melbourne, as I could not find one in Qld with all the features that I was looking for.

I had a green manual 406 ST prior to that, a silver manual 505 prior to that and I also currently have a 207 grey manual Sportium.

Ha! My coupe was from QLD. Flew up from Melb bought it and drove it home. Is a 2000 D9 manual imported from NZ (owned by a French diplomat there). There were no manuals available in VIC at that time. Have owned it for 9 years with very little problems. I have PP2000 and have done all maintenance myself mostly minor niggles. Interestingly there are no 406 badges on the boot and no sun roof.

Great to see a blue one! It seems like we swapped manual cars between Qld and Vic. Maybe they didn't want a sunroof in NZ - just saying....
