306 Cabriolet budget restoration

Some aftermarket replacement hoods that were available in Australia in the last 20 years don't have the removeable window that the factory ones did. Sounds like it might have one of these fitted.

Look carefully, I suspect there is one in there. I'd b e very surprised, what year is yours? Mine is 2002 and has a zip.
No zip it’s an aftermarket(Bremtech?) hood.
In any case once the stitches give way the tension on the clear will be difficult to get right. The stitching on factory hoods is on the surrounding fabric that supports the clear.

One of the more tedious jobs I’ve taken on in recent memory

Removed the 100mph tape.
Yet another surprise! Looks like someone tried in vain to glue on some form of repair patch.
Two photos one after an hour of work with a razor blade, rag and some thinners.
Now for a final scrub with soap and water so it’s ready for a more permanent stitching type repair.
I’m thinking maybe a vinyl patch with the Peugeot lion printed on it so that I can duplicate a mirror image on the other side.

The top is actually blue and slightly faded so no chance of a colour match. I’ll probably use a black patch hence the desire to mirror the repair on the other side. Stitching will have to be done by hand with a leather stitching awl. Having gone this far I’d prefer to do the entire job myself. It would be hard to find someone willing to take it on without removal of the canvas from the hood which is not a simple task in itself.

Blue top might be from prestige soft tops in melbourne. They sell complete replacement fabric with window. prestigetops.com.au

I replaced the rear window of an Alfa 916 Spider with that clear vinyl you get from Spotlight on wide rolls that you put over tables/tablecloths to protect them. I used a small aluminuim bar with small bolt along the top/bottom and sifaflex at the sides. The square rod/bars were hidden by the outer hood canvas. It lasted 3 years and cost all of $35 to do.
