Hey there I am loooking for 207 gearbox manual (manufacturing date 2007) I have a really low kms on my clock. there is noise in transmission. Possible gearbox issue will need a new one no doubt. Is there anyone that has one ? I will contact all wreckers.

To clarify, you are after a gearbox, not a book on repairing one?

Manual transmissions are usually repairable economically if parts are available.

It would help greatly if you know which type of box is fitted. There is an ID plate on it. Otherwise, which engine do you have (letters 6-7-8 of the VIN) ?

Could you post them please? This information will help forum members to reply.

Can you describe the noise? Is there any difficulty changing gear?

Don't know thr seller but could be a match in Brisbane though

When this model was in the first year of a long run there were three engine - manual gearbox combinations.

It’s a winy noisy in 1st gear. Not in all
Other gears just in 1st. Not in Neutral eaither

Do we know for sure the g'box oil level is correct?

Regardless.

In absence of documentation and other crucial info I would just try an oil change maybe with something with lanolin in it. A few people here have reported good results with g'box noises and even shifting difficulties.

If the noise goes away you might have fixed it, if not, you've only lost the oil money (if you do not recover it).

If the noise disappears and then comes back, further investigation is needed.

Either way, as long as there is no catastrophic damage, I concur with the above suggestion that repairing might be the best bet. If it's a manual.

Hadn't heard about using wool grease (lanolin) before, but Nulon's PTFE (Teflon) treatment is a proven winner. Agree with your advice - start with an oil change, refilling to correct level. Won't cost much, as these boxes only hold a couple of litres...

Maybe I confused it, but I think the extra ingredient in Nulon is lanolin (or at least in some products) I think a few brands now have similar products.

And yes, I know it is a wool derived product. I think it is the high melting point that helps.

The VIN translates to your 207 XR 5dr having a 1.4 ET3J4 engine with the MA 5 speed gearbox (which is different to the BE4 5 speed used in other 207 models).

Pity I can't edit the previous post
It's likely you missed the 3rd character, should be VF3WCKFUC 34072019
And I think that might be the 207 model with the Piloted MA 5 speed and no clutch pedal?

MA5 Sensodrive?
Noisy first gear feels repairable.

Regular MA5 manual apparently. It probably needs a bearing kit and a new clutch vs replacing the gearbox. The weak bearings are the input shaft and pinion and a pinion bearing failure can eject a roller and crack the case. From memory, the input shaft bearing has a plastic cage and if it breaks the shaft moves off axis. This might appear to be less of a problem once on the move.

Beyond your mechanic, it might be worth talking to The Gearbox Factory in Sydney - I think they are still around. There is a factory bearing kit that will be fairly costly, but there are alternatives on offer via eBay etc.. You'd also want the clutch kit or at least the guide tube and the release bearing if the rest of the clutch is recent and OK.

Thank you these are wonderful comments and advice. I am off to colliers auto who specialises in Peorgot and will give me the options. Fingers crossed it’s one of the above and not a massive. Repair

I believe that Colliers is a good choice of workshop.
