Hi All,

Wondering if you guys can shed some light on this for me.

I own a ‘95’ Peugeot S16. Initially when I bought it the car ran like a dream but recently it’s had a hard time idling.

The issue happens when it’s warmed up mainly but not every day. I’ll be at a stop and if I’m sat too long the check engine will come on, as soon as I let off the clutch it’ll lose power as if it wants to stall.

I pull the clutch back in give her a rev and try again and she’ll take off no problem and then the engine light will flick off.

The confusing thing is this only happens when warm and after I’ve filled the car up. After running the car out to the 3 quarter mark the issue disappears.

Some previous history on the car as initially I bought this dirt cheap at 2k. It came with no service history so I gave it a service (fluids, filters etc), replaced the valve cover gasket and had the shop change the belts for me.

I’ve had it run through a diagnostic when the problem initially started and the code was apparently for the O2 sensor but once replaced the same code kept appearing and I was told it didn’t affect the drivability.

And lastly the fuel pump died so I had that replaced along with the fuel filter.

I’ve browsed multiple forums and the only things I’ve yet to check are my ICV and possibly clean my injectors.

Appreciate any help and sorry for the long incoherent ramble.

I have a Mi16 - which is virtually the same engine - and I had the car idling poorly when warmed up and it would often stall. It turned out to be the vacuum lines to the twin opening/closing valves on the inlet tract. They were leaking to the outside air. Even the engine diagnostic light would come on at times. Unfortunately you cannot get the part from Peugeot but I solved the issue by buying from China new rubber lines which were installed in place of the old ones.

Cheers John, I’ve got the car going in tomorrow at another Peugeot specialist.

I’ll mention this too them and see what they can do. If not, would you happen to have a link to where you got the replacement lines or is it just a quick search on eBay?

Cheers 👍🏾

My wife's Mi16 had yhe same problem at some point and it was to do with the vacuum system but it wasn't the lines, it was pne of the pods. It had developed a hairline crack in the spigot where hose went, just about flush with the pod face that leaked vacuum. I could not get the pod so I enlarged the spigot hole a bit and slid in a brass tube that went a hair beyond the crack. Loctite it in place and that was it.

I just looked on ebay after I had determined the outside and inside diameters of the vacuum line. I think it was 9mm and 4mm from memory.
Best regards John505
